Posted February 4, 200916 yr What is the thread size for a D3100?Why does it say on the battery not to exceed 14.4 volt for charging? (I see people charging around 15 volts all the time on here)What will happen if my charger "exceeds" 14.4 volts?
February 5, 200916 yr Author Nevermind about the thread size. Didn't find the supplied hardware. Of course it didn't help that the hardware wasn't in the little bag
February 5, 200916 yr Originally the D3100's shipped with M8 hardware, but recently we have changed to M6 hardware to allow a larger surface for current to flow allowing more power to the amps Brass post and stud adaptors are available if you require a different type of mount. Also, 14.4V charging is recommended to promote the longest life out of the battery, however, it is safe to charge up to 14.9V in moderate temperatures.
February 6, 200916 yr how moderate of temps are we talking about? 95 degrees outside, highoutput alt set to 14.9 volts with the battery in the engine compartment. Is that too hot?
February 10, 200916 yr Outside temps are not nearly as important as the ambient temp right around the battery. For best performance it's best to keep the open air temp around our batteries below 140 degrees. This is not the case for all AGM battery designs... many can not take this much heat.
