Posted February 5, 200916 yr Hello all I have just received 2 FI Q 12s dual 2ohm subs. Now I am having all kinds of battles with self over what to do with them!! 1st issue is my amp is a Memphis Belle 5ch. If I run both subs, my wiring options are .5 ohm, 2ohm, and 8ohm. The amp is not .5ohm stable, only has 600watts at 2ohm, and not sure what it would be at 8ohm(only 400 at 4ohm). Would 600 be enough watts for 2 subs?? I have a Trans Am so if running both, I would have to have a sealed box. Is this doable without changing amps? I have been thinking of just running 1 sub and selling the other. If I do, I could choose a sealed or a ported enclosure. I have read the sticky about enclosure size my question is does FI have a preference for type of enclosure? Is sealed considered better or ported? One more question concerning using only 1 sub. My Belle does roughly 1200 watts at 1ohm which should be more than enough for a single sub. My ? is I have read that running subs, especially SQ subs, at 1ohm is a bad idea and should be ran at 4ohm? Is there anything to this? Again, this would put me at buying new amps and maybe point me back towards running both subs sealed. Any ideas, hints, suggestions, etc. is greatly appreciated. Jman
February 5, 200916 yr Ohm loads hav nothing to do with SQ. The Q will take 1200w fine if you set the gain not to clip. Fi doesn't care what box you run it in, that is up to your musical preference.
February 5, 200916 yr Author Thank you sir I will most likely try both types of boxes. I literally listen to every kind of music with the exception of country. IE: a 2 hour trip to the 'rents I may listen to TI, Van Morrison, Pantera, and Sara Mclaughlin That takes care of ? 2 and 3, for ? 1 I would need a different amp to run both subs wouldn't I?
February 25, 200916 yr The Belle would be good at 1 ohm on just 1 of those 12s, for 2, you need a good 2000 rms. My memory is fading, what's that one amp that's close to that, AQ2200?
