Posted February 9, 200916 yr AB 4ch amps for SQ purpose? which is over the other? overall performance...
February 9, 200916 yr Author not sure about the merlin but its the same spec as the slash 300/4. (75x4 @4ohm)almost the same price also, diff of about $50 only , merlin higher over Slash.
February 9, 200916 yr I am honestly not a fan of JL audio at all but I do have to say that their amps are very nice usually a bit overpriced in most stores but never the less great sounding amps. I cannot honestly say anything about the merlin amps since I have never played with one.
February 10, 200916 yr i have owned both and the merlins have more power to spare.for a dedicated SQ build i would go with other renowned SQ amplifiers.HTH
February 11, 200916 yr Author i have owned both and the merlins have more power to spare.for a dedicated SQ build i would go with other renowned SQ amplifiers.HTHthanks for the reply.well, its LOUD SOUND QUALITY if that means something... i just want clean and a good sounding system, SQ side when driving, but can play loud when needed...you mentioned..."for a dedicated SQ build i would go with other renowned SQ amplifiers."can you give names that i should look on to just for options sake?
February 11, 200916 yr if its for "LOUD SOUND QUALITY" then you would be ok. take a look at the MD43s, we found pretty good for loud applications.i've owned (and still have one installed in my competition car) several Genesis Series III amplifiers and they really get the job done. looks beautiful, too! very expensive though.friends of mine who regularly compete in the local EMMA events use Steg, Sinfoni, Brax and Helix with great success.i am actually now experimenting with a couple of AXTU600 tube amps from US Amps to see how it will do with my Focal speakers. but haven't gotten any serious work with the car yet.i am sure other people here could mention other brands. i been hearing good things about the Zeds but never owned or listened to one.good luck in your search!
