April 21, 200916 yr Author Nice work there. What kind of resin and FG did you use? Thanks, its hard work and its nice to see it appreciated !!Resin is US Composites B-440 Premium Polyester Layup Resin and the glass is US Composites 3/4oz chopped strand mat.I'd never done FG before so I got the 3/4oz and 1 1/2oz to try out. I haven't tried the 1 1/2oz yet, but the 3/4 seems to work good in the corners. I'll probably try the heavier stuff on the kicks and rear deck, see how strong it makes it. But I always take advice too
April 23, 200916 yr Looking very good man. Your doing a good job for first time working with fiberglass. Best advice I can give is always always mix it right. To little hardener sticky resin, to much hardener cracked resin.

To little hardener sticky resin, to much hardener cracked resin. Thanks !! Yea, I have been following this Mekp chart:ex:90 degrees and higher = 1% of mekp70 degrees to 89 = 1.25% of mekp60 degrees to 69 = 1.50 % of mekp59 degrees and below = 1.75% of mekpSince I'm in Southeast FL (its been 75 to 80 outside), I've been using 1.25% mekp or 80 drops per 8oz of resin. Its been giving me plenty of time to work with it and its not tacky after its cured. I'm going to try to finish up the inside today so I can concentrate on the rear deck next week.

April 23, 200916 yr Author Thanks to everyone for the positive comments, it is definitely a confidence booster. Here is todays fun:Sanded the 2 protruding corners on the inside, then glassed the remaining corners and sides, excluding behind the baffle. Now for the porn....I've been asked what Resin I've been using... This stuff is awesome !!! The best part is that its a 10 minute drive for me to pick it up in person
April 23, 200916 yr very nice. i have a few questions. how do you like that MLA? and what are al those freakin gas cans for!
April 23, 200916 yr Author very nice.i have a few questions.how do you like that MLA? and what are al those freakin gas cans for! Thanks. Well, it does what it says. I keep it at 15.6v all day and I am having no ill symptons from any of the electronics. All I can say for it right now is that it keeps my Kinetik HC1800 with a nice charge, car starts up like its on steroids. Until I get the system done, I won't really be able to notice the benefit. Oh, headlights are real bright at 15.6v hehe. The only problem with the MLA that I see is that once you eat up all the current your alternator can provide, you'll still get voltage drop since you will be hitting the batteries.Gas cans, those are for my generator. After Hurricanes Francis, Jeanne and Wilma, we were without power for 10days each time. I figure that will keep me up and running until at least some gas stations get back up and running. Most of them now have generators too so you can at least fill up after a storm. Back then, you couldn't find gas for at least a week.

April 28, 200916 yr Author Damn, I'm tired. I ran 2 runs of 1/0 Knukoncepts Fleks Kable to the trunk. I was able to run them from under the hood, thru the fender well (behind the splash guard) where the stock nissan cables go through. There is a huge rubber grommet that is very flexible that I was able to just push the cables thru right next to the stock cables. Fed them thru the cable channels under the carpet on the drivers side all the way to the back seat, then right up into the trunk. I still have to tie them up, but I'm not sure exactly how I want to route them along the side of the trunk yet, I just wanted to get them through the car. I'm thinking I'll just run the speaker wires and the Alpine cables under the carpet through the center console. All the rca's will be in the trunk. I'll take pics after I get something made along the lines of a small buss bar to mount on the batteries.
April 29, 200916 yr Author Well I finally got the guts to start the kick pods. I started on the drivers side since there is more stuff to work around, that way when I do the passenger side it will be a breeze.Pulled the kick panel out and layed down lots of masking tape.I took the dremel to the kick panel and cut out a huge section to make some clearance for the tang bands underhung motor assembly. And here it is all gooped up.
April 29, 200916 yr how many layers did you put on? it looks like only one. if its not enough it can change shape on you once you pull it off
April 29, 200916 yr Author how many layers did you put on? it looks like only one. if its not enough it can change shape on you once you pull it offGood eye !! Yea, about half of it only has one layer, on the other half I put a layer of 1-1/2 oz mat on top of the 1st layer. I was very careful when I pulled it off so it wouldn't break or bend, so far it looks good. Thanks for the heads up on changing shape though, I didn't know that. Tomorrow I'll test fit it to see if it changed. If it does, I'll just have to make another one. Edited April 29, 200916 yr by bobonit

In that case I should be ok, I'm going to build up at least 3 layers on the form before I start mounting rings and fabric. Thanks again.

April 30, 200916 yr Author Time for the passenger side kick. Wow was this one easier !!! No brake peddle, steering wheel, etc.... in the damn way.Got it all taped up and foiled. This time I was more patient and layed down a minimum of 3 layers of mat, in all the corners and some other areas I put 4. Once its out of the car and cured, I'll seal up around where the glass attaches to the kick panel.I also layed up some more mat on the drivers side kick and worked in some mat where the glass attaches to the kick panel. The palm tree works great for hanging something out to dry
