Another update:

Made the 1st baffle and mounted. I'm lovin how that Dewalt makes those miter cuts. Fits perfectly !!!

Test fit before glueing it in.

One end glued and clamped. I used the C-Clamps as stops to rest the baffle against while I used the Bar Clamp to hold it together. By the way, those Jorgenson Cabinet Master Bar Clamps are the chit !!!

After the other end was glued and clamped, I set it at an angle to get a bead of glue in the seam.

Tomorrow I hope to get the sides done and maybe get the holes cut for the subs. Then I need to start work on the rear deck. With the stock Bose speakers there, I cannot even do a test fit, the magnets are in the way. I need to pull the deck apart to pull the speakers out so I can do a test fit of the box. While I have it apart, I'll make a template to make a new rear deck to house the ports, E8's and rear stage (for the kids DVD's hehehe)

  • Well I haven't been making much progress on this, but I got a little done. Working 12 hour days sucks, I've been looking for work closer to home so I don't have to drive 3 hours each day. Anyway, I ha

  • Ok, finally an update! I mounted the buss bars in the trunk. They are mounted just under the trunk latch between the tail lights. I made up some cables and connected all the rear batteries together

  • I really didn't like how the cabling came out so I pulled them out and rerouted them. I think it looks much better this way.

Next week I hope to get the holes cut, dowels installed and sides done. Then I need to work on the rear deck.

lookin good man

Thanks. Those funky corners on the bottom came out better than I expected since I'm so rusty on my woodworking skills. Just to be safe, i'm going to glass the corners and resin the inside to make sure the corners hold.

I got some more work done today. I broke open a couple of new toys I've been dying to use.

Nice tools. Those subs look like they are just waiting to pound!!

I know I know, I have to keep forcing myself to not rush it. Now I have to set that aside and start working on the rear deck, I have to get clearance under the rear speakers to test fit the box. I'm figuring a new deck with some MDF rings to raise up the speakers. I think I only need a inch or two, we will see what I can come up with.

Remember anything worth doing is worth doing right!! Take your time and make it the way you want it!!

Well, I pulled the rear pillars and deck out so I can get to the stock blose speakers. Pulled them out and did a test fit of the enclosure. The enclosure slid right through the door opening perfectly. However, I need to shave off about 1/4 inch off of the top of the opening I had cut behind the seat. I only need about 1/16th of an inch more, but I have about 1/4" inch of metal to work with so I'll just take that off and had a little extra wiggle room, also once the box is covered, it will probably need that extra space.

This build looks like it's coming along nicely.

That box is gonna be ported, right?

Yes, I have 2 6" Aero's going in it. I have not cut the holes yet.

Looks like a cool build, i look forward to following it. Where did you pick up your router? Mine recently burned up :(.

Nice build. I just picked up the same router and jasper jigs. I won't get to use them till next week though. Would you mind giving a demo when you are through. I go to Orlando ofter and would love to cruise over and have a listen. :)

We will have to see how the economy does for me. I'm still between jobs after getting laid off, so I have to wait till I get working again, I'm still short the head unit I want, but I need to get $$$ flowing again before I make any more purchases. But other than that, i wouldn't mind at all.

HAHAHAHA I JUST READ YOUR NAME bob on it haha

Ahhhhahahhahahaa, someone finally got it !!!

Ok, so I shaved about 1/4 inch off the top of the opening behind the seat and started to test fit the box again.

DSC00968.jpg

I'm going to close the sides in last, its much easier to carry around this way :)

DSC00970.jpg

Like OJ's Glove !!!

This is with the box in all the way to the stock speaker magnets. I didn't feel like dissassembling the deck again, thats good enough for a fit. A tight fit it is. If you look at the passenger side at the top of corner of the box, I had to bend the metal up a little. Fawking floor is uneven so it is higher on that side.

DSC00971.jpg

Here is a closer look. Since I took that picture, I have made even more clearance, its not a problem anymore.

DSC00972.jpg

Here is a front view of the space I had to make to clear the strut towers.

DSC00973.jpg

Rear view of the strut towers.

DSC00974.jpg

Now the only problem I have is trying to make room for the E8 woofers and 6 1/2" tang bands. The magnets hang too damn low. Even with the MDF rings I'm gonna make them, they will still come down 2.5" too low. I am now thinking to just cut a couple of recesses in the top of the sub box to give the magnets clearance. I did the math and I would lose 427 ci by doing that which would bring my net enclosure volume to 5.4cf. I think that should be fine. If I remember correctly, Jacob said that 5cf would be good for them, so I'm still a little above that and I don't have to take drastic measures with the back dash, stealth is critical !!!

Well, I've been real busy lately, so here is all I've accomplished in a little while.

Removed the rear deck and speakers to fully test fit the sub box.

DSC00996.jpg

Box fits perfectly.

DSC00997.jpg

I didn't match the angle of the baffle to the angle of the rear seat because I wanted a little extra clearance near the bottom where the center armrest in the rear seat (ski hole) is hinged as it protrudes from the rear of the seat back a little bit.

DSC00998.jpg

Here's how it looks from the trunk view.

DSC00999.jpg

DSC01000.jpg

DSC01001.jpg

I really have to think hard about what I want to with the rear deck, there is no room below the deck at all so the only option would be to make a little room in the top of the box which would bring it down to about 5.4cf net instead of 5.8cf. So let me ask all you experienced box builders, will that .4cf really make much difference? Otherwise I have to start looking at the rear doors which I really didn't want to have to do. Thanks in advance for any input, Bob.

I've seriously thought about it, the only reason I haven't yet is I was planning on having 5.1 with the iva-w505 and pxa-h701 when I play dvd's. The kids dig watching movies when we go on a trip and that would be cool, HT in the car heheheh. I might just have to cave on that though...undecided.
