I currently have a rockford 1500.1 amplifier, 2 12" fi q's a power acoustik 5 farad capacitor and a stinger sp 680 car audio battery. I have been having problems with the amplifier and am not sure what it is thats wrong or what I can try next or if the amp is possibly deffective. the amp is currently turned up a little less than half way and when I put the base all the way up on the head unit and turn the volume up about 3/4 the way up the amp will shut off. The red light does not come on to put the amp into protection or anything just the amp turns off than back on a few seconds later. I have upgraded the big 3 with 4 gauge wire and ran 0 gauge wire from the battery back so Im not sure what to do next to fix the problem.

check your remote and your grounds. somehting may be loose. does the whole radio turn off or does the amp only turn off.

also what do you mean by turned up half way?

is it a bass boost on the hu or gain?

Turn your friggin' bass boost down and tune your amp correctly.

What impedance are the subs and how do you have them wired?

My guess is either too big of a load on the amp (impedance too low) or low voltage from the car's electrical system.

Is that Stinger battery the only battery in your car? Or is that a secondary trunk cell?

The stinger is a secondary battery in my trunk, the amp is the only thing that is shutting off, and the head unit has a adjustment for the subwoofer level and a seperate one for bass and those are both turned up when it is shutting off, the subs are each 1 ohm dual voice coil and they are wired down to 1 ohm which the amp is supposed to put out 1800 watts at 1 ohm

The amp is tuned it sounds really good with out even turning it up and the bass boost is low, I mean it sounds good to me already I just want to be able to turn it up all the way every once in a while without problems

Im assuming that the voltage is not high enough in the car because the cap reads about 14 volts normally and when the bass hits it drops all the way to around 11 volts, so if that is the case should I go with a bigger battery up front like an optima red top or should I go with a bigger alternator.

There's your problem.......

Beef up your charging system.

You're drawing too many amps...
