Just got 2 10" SSD subs and I have a Hi Fonics Bxi1610D. I had both in my single cab Dodge truck, a friend of mine said that I could take one out and build a ported box for one and make it sound better that the 2 sealed. My question is, is that true and could I still use the same amp with only 1 sub? It would have to be either 1600 watts @ 1 ohm or 550 watts @ 4 ohms I believe since the sub is a dual 2.

The debate between ported and sealed enclosures depend entirely on your listening preferences. Not your friends. Not ours.

You could still use the amp on that sub wiring it to 4 ohms in a ported enclosure.

Deciding which enclosure is important though. What things, if any, don't you enjoy about your current setup?

"Sounding better" is subjective. You will have people who say ported is better, and people who say sealed is better. It's up to your ears. You can still use that amp.

It splits the power. If it was equal power to both subs, you would have a 3.2kW amplifier.

If you want more "boom, boom" then give the ported box a try. Fi has ported box specs stickied in the Technical forum. Also, if you have the room, just run both of them ported. They'll be getting more power to each sub than if you ran just one ported.

I believe I can do 2 ported. I used the box creator on REAudio.com. I am not sure how to figure out the L port size. The Specs I have so far are:

Box Height: 15.5

Box Width: 24

Box top Depth: 6

Box bottom Depth: 6

Square port length 1: 1

Square port length 2: 1

Wood thinkness: .50=1/2

It says that the volume is 0.901

Not entirely sure If I did it correctly..says the tuned frequency is 63.841 etc.

I think it is suppose to configured at 33.

You need to adjust your port lengths. The first one should be 3-4 inches wide. Length depends on the tuning.

Here is a good ported box calculator. I would port both 10's if you could. Should be a hell of alot louder. And it should be more efficient.
