Posted May 10, 200916 yr My buddy has 2 10" subs (cheapo off brands) and 2 12" subs (Dual Audio) and the tens are being pushed by a 300 watt amplifier and the 12's are being pushed by a 580 watt amplifier. I told him that i could buy one sub and be louder than him but he doesnt believe me. So I am asking you guys whether or not a Fi Q 12"or an AudioQue HDC312 (both powered by an AQ1200D) will be louder than his setup. I am almost positive just based on the fact that he has chit subs but i am also wondering if he just has to much of a cone area advantage.Do you guys think i'll be louder?
May 10, 200916 yr Those subs aren't even really comarable....the AQ is mainly for SPL and the Fi is for SQ....But i bet either of those will be louder and sound a helluva lot better Edited May 10, 200916 yr by FF5
May 10, 200916 yr Author Ik the HDC12 is mainly an SPl sub but i just wanted to know if people thought it would be louder. I bet the SDC2.5 12 will still be louder even at 600 rms.
May 11, 200916 yr if you are looking for decent sounding music, if you went with an HDC3 anything, stick to keeping it powered with that amp and no higher. Once it surpasses Xmax, it's all about SPL from there. When inside of it's xmax rating, it sounds nice. The SDC2.5s have a 2.3" xmech rating so powering one of those off of an aq1200d would be a perfect combo. It would be able to get an SDC2.5 to reach it's limits a lot easier than trying to get an HDC3 loud.
May 11, 200916 yr I bet it would be I have one (tryin to figure out how to fit two in my trunk) and i like it.Another sub to throw in the mix is the SSA Icon.....i hear it can hold its own edit: i have the setup Shizzzon talking about. I like it! Edited May 11, 200916 yr by FF5
May 11, 200916 yr Hey FF5, give me as many dimensions as possible and a pic of your trunk, i'll try and get a fit for ya.What size and model u runnin?
May 11, 200916 yr Ok cool! I'll PM ya Gotta say, my first box for both SUCKED!!!! Haha decided to gor for one till i could figure out a good design.
May 11, 200916 yr Madden it is going to come down the box. Considering your goals though why not a BTL instead of a Q. The Q would be the last Fi driver I'd pick for what you sound like you will do with the sub.

The Q would be the last Fi driver I'd pick for what you sound like you will do with the sub.Money. lol. Thats why im not going with the BTL. If i get that then i have to buy a battery and a more powerful amp. It all just adds up. Thats why i was trying to stick to around 1000rms because i will need minimaly upgrades but still get the output i want. And Audioque is cheaper than FI so thats why i was leaning towards the HDC312. What do you suggest i get? All i want to do is prove to people that there chitty ass 4 subs can be beat by just 1.
May 11, 200916 yr But the Q's would be able to put out a lot more output down low, which those cheaper subs definitely won't be able to do. But like M5 said, the BL is Fi's lower powered SPL sub, which would be more along the lines of the HDC3

The Q will sound better then the AQ but not as loud. What kind of vehicle is it going in?
May 11, 200916 yr Author This is going in a 2003 TrailblazerI never said i want just SPl because i decided on the FI Q. If i wanted just SPL then i would deff. save up for the BTL instead of the HDC312. At 1000 watts isnt the HDC312 gonna be more SQ than SPL? Because just like Shizzon said, anything above the xmax is gonna be SPl right
May 11, 200916 yr Again, completely wrong assumption.Same amp, the BTL will be LOUDER than the Q. Even if you upgrade NOTHING else. You aren't comparing anything that makes sense. The BTL is fine, even with 200w it will be louder than the Q...and significantly. And stop with the SQ, you have NO idea its meaning. From now on just describe what you want without using either the term SPL or SQ.
May 11, 200916 yr Author Fi BTL 12" = too much for a 16 year old w/ a chitty jobFi Q & HDC12 = just right priceI already said thats the reason why i do not want to go down the BTL road
May 11, 200916 yr Choose ONEGet loud, no matter what sound qualityORsound good and sacrifice being the loudest.I'm assuming you want the second, so the Q probably isn't the ideal sub for you.

May 11, 200916 yr i'm still saying, if u want loud for cheap, i'd invest in an SDC2.5 over an HDC3 with what power you have UNLESS you plan on gettin in upwards of 2kw.The HDC3s are monsters and can take up to about 2kw on the copper coils and 3.5kw on the aluminum (which is almost $100 more per sub)It's easy for someone who doesn't have the common knowledge to damage an SDC2.5 off of an AQ1200d rather quickly... so thanks to AQ, they added a clipping indicator to the amp.If this light comes on solid red during a continuous bass line, TURN IT DOWN. It will be fine if it blinks, but it it starts staying on during bass lines rather than blinking or flickering, you are about to damage something possibly

I have the common knowledge. I know how to set the gains on my amp and i know when its TOO MUCH for the amp. i was thinking the SDC2.5 12's at first but i was doubting the loudness of them. But then again i have never heard one
May 11, 200916 yr Yes the Q is a great sound quality woofer that can hit low and get loud, don't get me wrong, but it's not designed just to get loud....I can't think of anyone who owns one right off the top of my head, but i know there are some people who have them. I'm only talking from what i've heard others say.Another sub to look at is the SSA Icon. you wouldn't be let down by that one And Shizzon is right, if you want loud for cheap, go with one or two SDC2.5s.....that's what i have and i love it! Mine gets loud enough i really don't want to be in the car, and screw trying to use any of my mirrors lol (ya ya that won't impress any regulars on this site, but High school kids on the other hand.....) And they're only 140 + shipping
May 11, 200916 yr I've never heard the SDC2.5 either, just the HDC3s and the original HD3s.From talkin to AQ, the SDC2.5 is built pretty much like the HDC3s, just a little younger, if u know what i mean. They still focus on how stout of a sub it is but it would be dumb to incorporate the exact same specs in the HDC3 as for the SDC2.5 due to unnecessary weight reasons. The thing that still shocks me is the 2.5s vs the HDC3s in terms of excursion is the 2.5s only lost 0.7" maximum mechanical movement. That means they can STILL move an ungodly amount of air. I would actually run them for my new project but since they only use a 2.5" coil, they wouldnt be a smart choice in comps for what power i'm gonna be runnin.
May 11, 200916 yr Haha i showed my friend both before i put them in....then only put one in He FLIPPED when he only saw one sub in the trunk...it was pretty funny lol!
