So when I first got my 2 12" btl's they got low and loud. I have had them almost a month and now they don't sound the same. It's late so I havent put a dmm on the so I don't know if something happened with the coils but I never smelt anything. One day they were hitting real low and I thought I heard a pop but they still sounded great, may I have over done it? Any ideas???

pop......maybe a bad ssf setting...or u clipped the hell out of the amp maybe causing a huge surge..the btls probably didnt die cuz they can take it..maybe burnt the coil a bit..idk..i had a logitech once that i clipped and the former got black it played normal at low levels and as vol got higher it distorts crazy under controlled wattage ..u should examine them out of the box

a broken box.. or broken screws on the subs will cause a great loss in audio...

Sounds like you didn't have your subsonic filter set properly.

Ok so I have been looking and playing and now I really feel like an idiot. The reason for the sound loss is because since I had it all in there I had my middle seat down(suv) and the other day when I was cleaning it out I put that seat back up so apparently it made a difference.

20 seems too low.

Get a test tone cd and play 24hz over and over and over.

turn the subsonic filter all the way up.

Turn the head unit to your maximum possible playing level.

Slwoly start to turn the subsonic filter back down until the subs exhibit the maximum excursion that you wish for them to move and you are done.

My box is tuned to 33htz. It is set at 20 right now. Thanks for explaining what it does. I have a memphis mojo 4kw as an amp. Really how should it be set. I also dont really understand the lpf, I do but I would like to really understand it better.

set the LPF to around 70-80hz.

The lpf will set the point at which the frequencies ABOVE where it is set at to start rolling off... or becoming a lot more quiet.

Your subwoofer should only be playing low frequencies. So, tuned to 33hz, probably should play around 28-65hz without attenuation.

note *bottoming out...i think the pop may have been a split second collision with the former and back plate..this is the sounds of speakers getting killed **.about your amp settings you should check out the tutorial on the amps and electrical section on this forum..ther's a sticky at the top of how to set your gains with a dmm...then your'e gnna need to know how to set your ssf(subsonic filter) i personally dont use one and ive been quite fine for a year and half with a 10 l7..umm if i can remember correctly you simply set your ssf to a slightly lower freq as of your box tuning this ensures frequencies under your port's range wont play at full tilt causing the woofer to react in a free air situation.

Yeah that was most likely a bottoming out event. It could have damaged the coils, but if it was just once it should be ok. Just don't do it again. TURN THE GAIN DOWN.

It's bottoming out because you are putting too much power to it. You need to turn the gain down or else don't turn the head unit volume up that high.

Yeah I made sure to turn the gain down. Actually since I adjusted everything listening to you guys it sounds a lot better. I took it by the shop today and the owner was mad cause I messed with it but I found out he has burnt 2 cars up within the last 2 months
