In another fourm Im being told I need to change my tuning frequency from 32hz to around 60hz. Im running a FI q 12 d2 with a Crossfire VR 1000d. It would be for outlaw spl only not daily. FI doesnt recommend going outside of there suggestions, could any harm be done to my sub by tuning it this high ? Would there be any gains ?

Well ill share with you what ive gathered and maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in. Generally a higher tuning usually between 40 - 50 hz is used to achieve a louder tone. Usually youtr car will peak at a certain freq. Also by raising your tuning you could get cone/suspension damage if you dont set your sub sonic filter correctly. I would suggest not using your q for spl as it is more of an sq woofer (but by all means do what you wish).

Anyways thats all i know. Correct me if im wrong.

If it's just an SPL box for competitions, tune it high (40+ hz) to increase SPL. But you'll have to do some playing with different tuning frequencies to find out what's loudest for your car. It may be a box tuned to 45 hz, 55 hz, or 60 hz. You won't know until you try. If it's just for burping and no music, the subsonic filter won't matter as long as you play above the tuning. But don't play any music or a tone below tuning frequency without a subsonic filter. It'll be a one note wonder box, but in SPL competitions that's all you need.

My advise is to find someone with a meter if u dont have one and test, test, test. Get a bunch of mdf and go crazy. You would be suprised what werid designs could work for you. What kind of vehicle are you trying to compete in?
