Posted July 31, 200916 yr hey guys, im currently running a 10" MTX 8500 series sub with a JL Audio 500/1 amp, in a Pro Box. Its already pretty loud, but i dont think the sub would last that much longer, i was listening to a couple songs on the the way home from work and when i was a block or two away from my house i smelled something funny, went home and popped my trunk and the smell was coming from the sub, the cone was pretty warm from only 10mins of music and i had the volume at 14 on my alpine headunit. The sub is rated 500watts rms, and thats what the amp put out or a little more, but i didnt know it could heat up that much. Im looking to sticking to a 10" sub if possible since the box wasnt cheap. I listen to rap/hip-hop a lot of the time, gorilla zoe, gucci man, slim thug, ect. I know the box isnt that great but i dont want to get a new box small budget, so im guessing a 10" fi q would be good for me? im looking some something loud but also hit the lows really well. also will it be fine if i run a q or bl with a jl 500/1? i know it isnt alot but its really all my electrical can take before upgrading wires from 4awg. any suggestions will help, i just want to see what my options are. this is the box i currently have the 10" mtx 8500 in:http://proboxrocks.com/products/unloaded/superbass/110SPB/index.shtml
July 31, 200916 yr If that box is 2cuft net, then that is a HUGE box for a sinlg 10.And the Q is a lowend monster, but theres really no telling what that box is tuned to.
July 31, 200916 yr Author yea, that box is really big, probably why my mtx is doing bad. so the box i have now is too big for the 10" fi q? or even bl?
August 1, 200916 yr Author would this box work for a 12" Fi Q?http://cgi.ebay.com/CUSTOM-SLOT-PORTED-BOX-for-12-SUB-WOOFER-2-0-ft-3-32Hz_W0QQitemZ170363667890QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item27aa7745b2&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
