Posted September 28, 200915 yr here is a pic of my trunk:I have a 12'' DC lvl 4 sub. I drive a sedan.I like to listen to a lot of pop rock // pop punk // metal music, some have fast bass drums//guitarsI think I'm going to go with some type of ported box, which should I go with? a slotted, vented, ported, or what?Can anyone help me design a box for my subs? I also don't know which way to port it, towards the trunk?I'd like to have the box toward the side of the trunk, so I can still fold down the back seat and access the trunk.

September 28, 200915 yr I haven't heard an audible difference between the two. Depending on the design it's a 50/50 on preference. Advantage of Slot Port is you get the advatage of internal bracing but the enclosure will be bigger. Round Ports like the Aero Port you can mount on the outside of the box and gain more internal enclosure volume. I prefer slot vents.

September 28, 200915 yr basically, if you want ported but may not have enough port area to get optimal size port, go aeroports.They do not require as much port area and can still be just as loud. However, if you got plenty of room for a slot port, then aeros aren't necessary.

They custom build enclosures and you can see the great work they do and also what a double baffle and Kerf Port look like.I looked through some of the fabricator's sections and did some google research, but I still have a question...I've read that 'parallel sides' can cause 'standing waves'. Does this mean the sides should be angled? or would 45 degree corners solve this issue?If not, What are the 45 degree corners for?Any idea where I can find a formula for slotted kerfed tuning?
September 28, 200915 yr 45 degree corners help in bracing and to help with the airflow to the port openig. Not sure if there is a formula for calculating other than subtracting if from your internal volume and taken into account for port length. Kerf cuts take practice and a lot of it! Try 5/8 deep and space anywhere from 1/4" on up to find your desired radius.

If you keep and keep on researching, you're gonna want an enclosure so pristine that you are gonna want it made into a perfect sphere.It's not like if not everything is made just right that it's gonna be a failure. It's nice to have the features, don't get me wrong, but it's also not necessary all the time either.

It's nice to have the features, don't get me wrong, but it's also not necessary all the time either.to make a kerfed slot, cant you just cut the shape out several times, stack them, and glue the peices together? this would be stronger and thicker than just cutting slots in the wood, right?how do you calculate a kerfed slot port tuning frequency?

I would stay around the 35hz tuning for your musical tastes.

I don't do any competitions at all. I simply want to feel the bass inside me If I tune it @ 35 hz, does that mean anything BELOW 35 hz will sound like crap?I've heard 32-33 hz is best for a lvl 4 dc sub.I want to design my own box really.... how do I know how big to make the port? (i want a double kerfed slotted port)

Once you get to a certain db level your body will feel what the subs putting out no matter the Hz level(just pick one and move on). Yes 30hz will work on that sub, just depens on your preference. The length determines the tuning frequency, height times width determines the port area in inches^2 (12-16in^2 per cubic foot of internal volume).
