October 13, 200915 yr I Think So Too. Not Only The Whole SQ Wall Phenomenon, But Having Two JL W7 10"s In 9 Cubic Feet And Having A Single XXX To Fill A Possible 14 Cubic Feet Of Usable Space. I'm Quite Confused Myself.
October 13, 200915 yr Author Oops, sorry, I don't think I made myself clear... Obviously. The JL 10W7's in the 9 cubes @ 20hz, are in ANOTHER car (a 2000 PT Cruiser, which I use daily). Observe the sweet, pink speaker wire. And yes, I know the carpet for the home-made cargo shelf don't match, I just haven't found the correct color anywhere... I have two new Phoenix Gold RSd-amps (300.4 and 1200.1) laying here, I just have to install them when I have time...Notice the nice frequency response in WinISD. Sounds just as nice too!In my "project car" (the 1974 Mini), I'll put my RE XXX-18 (->50hz), three Morel Elate SW10's for 50-100hz, and Morel Integra Ovation XO 6 speakers. I'll power the XXX-18 with a Helix Dark Blue 1000.2 amp, and the rest of the speakers (SW10's and Ovation XO 6) with a Harman/Kardon CA5250 amp (the sub-channel pulls all three Elate SW10's easily @ 1,33 ohms, I know this as this was my previous setup in the PT Cruiser). This amp is 2 x 150W RMS @ 4 ohms bridged + 300W RMS @ 2 ohms on the sub channel. It actually kicks major ass for being so cheap! (The sub channel is actually currently running the two 10W7's in my PT right now @ 1,5 ohms, and it sounds really good, and gets "loud enough" for daily usage).Don't have any pictures of the mini project so far... But this is the XXX-18, my XXX-12 (which I swapped for my brother's two 10W7's), and one of the Morel Elate SW10's. Edited October 13, 200915 yr by Boomboxx
October 13, 200915 yr Author And why use both the XXX-18 and the Morels, you ask? Well. Beacuse I can, and I want high sensitivity all the way down...Because XXX-18 in 14 cubes @ 25 hz is a killer SUB BASS (this enclosure yields 93,5dB sensitivity @ 30hz).Morel Elate SW10's have ~50 grams of MMS and reach full (+/- 5mm) full excursion with less than 50 watts if playing less than 50hz...Also, pictures say more than words, so here you go: Edited October 13, 200915 yr by Boomboxx

October 15, 200915 yr Urrrgghhh????? Please tell me you actually made a box for those W7's and they aren't just playing free air in a parcel shelf?!??

Correct. There's also a wall of 19mm MDF against the back of the back seats, to seal off the cargo space from the rest of the car. The cargo space is really square, and easy to seal off, so there's no leaks into the car. While this may be considered a "free air" installation (with a 6" port, though), I don't see how an enclosure the same size (270 litres) would make it sound or function any better than it does. The "shelf" is also cut to fit and seal when the door is shut, and the "shelf" itself is 22mm particle board reinforced with two U-shaped steel bars from side to side. It makes a very efficient, light weight "enclosure".And they get "loud enough" (guessing high 130's) with just 150w each (when I get time, I'll change the amp to the RSd1200.1, and get it metered just for fun).
October 16, 200915 yr Author OMG I bet i could fart louder than those JL's, in that 'shelf'You insult me.With my 7 years of car audio experience (that's experience, not jerking off at a web forum), and the social intelligence above that of an average rat, I'd say you're the one doing the insulting here. It works very well. That shelf is "dead" as a fresh piece of roadkill. Think about it... 15 pounds of wood, enforced by U-shaped steel bars, with the added mass of the two 10W7's. And it's jammed tight between the rear seats and the door, when it's shut. It's not vibrating, even when playing really loud.
October 16, 200915 yr As long as you've adjusted for the QL it will be fine.Out of curiosity, explain M5?

October 16, 200915 yr As long as you've adjusted for the QL it will be fine.Out of curiosity, explain M5?QL=leakage, box losses. Just another factor that is considered when you are building a ported enclosure.

School sucks )
October 19, 200915 yr No hard feelings. What is da plan for the XXX 18? i say big box+low tune (25-28hz). But thats just me.
