Sundown Audio SAE-1200D

◦1200 x 1 watts @ 1 ohm

◦600 x 1 watts @ 2 ohms

The SAE-1200D is designed to produce it's full 1200 watts of rated output at 12.8 volts!

These amps are capable of a real 1500+ watts at 12.8 volts.

That's what I'm talkin bout. I really am trying tostepmy game upon this build. I want to get away from the mainstream type stuff. I have heard so many good things about Sundown and now they finally have an amp I can afford! LOL! I think this will push my HDC3-15 nicely untill I can afford the AQ2200d.

In my opinion it would be pointless to go from Sundown to Audioque (I would just save up my money the first time and get the amp you really want but that Sundown will push the sub nicely (no such thing as underpowering a subwoofer).

From what I have researched, the Sundown is rated at 12.8 volts and the AudioQue is rated at 14.4. I'm runnin a stock 80 amp alt with a Yellow Top under the hood and 0g ran to the trunk. It just seems to me I would get more power out of the Sundown. Plus the Sundown has high level inputs and I am runnin off my stock radio for now, so I wouldn't have to buy a line converter.

Ok, I just don't think that the box design AQ gave me is going to squeeze into my trunk. I played around with the numbers and came up with this

35Wx16.5Hx16D

Port 3Wx17.5Lx15H

Tunes it right around 37.5Hz

end up with 3.7 minus approx .2 for sub disp still leaves me with the 3.5 AQ said would work

anyone check my numbers?

still gotta take the port displacement out of the equation, because the air in the port doesnt count as box volume.

That box is 3.26ft^3 @ 34.87Hz with 45in^2 of port area.

nice, I was gonna do the math when I got home and now I dont have to.

Thanks to everyone for the help, I did a cardboard moch-up of the box AQ said would be the smallest I could run the HDC315 in and I guess I must have been hittin the rock :peepwall: when I dreamed that I was gonna fit that box in my trunk. I got maybe a 1/4 of it in there. So it looks like it's gonna be the HDC312 for me. This is what AQ gave me for it

Displacement of the 12 is .18

The 12 likes ported boxes of 1.7-2.5 net cubes tuned 36-40hz Best box is 2.2

Make your box 26" x 16" x 16"

Make your port 2.4" wide, 14.5" tall and 20" total length

Your box will be 2.2 net tuned to 38hz

Does this sound about right to yall?

Whoever calculated that box didnt subtract the subs displacement, it is 2.08 ft^3 @ 37.47Hz.

How bout this:

16"H x 26"W x 16"D

14.5"H x 2.3"W x 15.5"L

2.26 ft^3 @ 38.04 Hz (port area= 33.5in^2, port area range= 27-36in^2)

So the sub displacement affects the port tune also? Us this where I kept going wrong with my designs?

yeah, the port is tuned to the volume of air inside the box, and both the port itself and the driver takes away from that airspace.

as the net volume of the box gets bigger, the port length can actually shorten as long as you are keeping the same port area, and if keeping the same net volume but making the port area larger then the port is going to be longer. so one of the ways you can get more usable airspace in the same overall box size would be to run your port area on the lower end of the scale. anywhere between 12-16 in^2 per cube is generally recommended.

Thanks for the input. Does the box he suggested sound right to you? It sounds right to me, but then what do I know right? Please can any one help me out with a cut sheet for the box jay_cee suggested. I'm pretty sure that is the one I will go with. Thanks.

Thank you. What about the port, 14.5"H x 2.3"W x 15.5"L how would I factor this in to the build. Sorry to ask so many questions, but this will be my first box that I build and I don't wanna mess it up. So would I just stop the front wall 2.3 inches from the inside of the side wall and make the port wall 14.5 high and 12.2 deep then bend it on the back wall for 3.3?

Sounds like you haven't bought the sub yet, so you still have time to get something else :)

You really despies Audioque, why is that if you dont mind me asking (just curious)?

thats a weird port length for that box. box is 14.5" deep inside, so you obviously cant do in one straight run because if you do it would be closer to the back wall than the width of the port, but if you want to bend it, the length of the first portion is 14.1" (16" - .75 for the back wall - 1.15 for half the port width) so now you only need 1.4" more port, and since you measure down the middle of the port when bending it, you only make the next wall 1.4" minus half the port width (which is 1.15") so now you only turn the corner .25", but the material itself is .75" so just running your port to 2.3" from the back wall is theoretically a 16" port. I am not smart enough to know whether or not it actually works like that when a port wall is only .75", wheres shizz?
