i've been pondering getting rid of my rl-p's in a search for something louder. i need some suggestions on what to do. i was either thinking 2 different 15's or a single 18. i've got ~1500 watts @ 1 ohm. what would you suggest?

if your going to compete, 15's if your not going to compete much keep the RL-ps

everyone is suggesting to keep the rl-p's and build a diff box. what box would yeild the most output for a daily driver?

well as it sits you are tuned very low, if you could tune upwards of 38hz you will gain more output, but loose some bottom end that you are currently used to, kent would know better for tuning than I would, I have not tested yet

tune in the neighborhood of 34-36hz if u want to keep some sq..

tune higher for more output.

kicker made a solid point, power. however, a 150+ is LOUD. especially in a daily driver. i'm running a 18 solo x off an orion 2500d, doing 144.4...and it hurts my ears. just how loud do u want to go?

btw, the s18x is just shy of a pair of round 15's in cone area.

also, my overall suggestion? 34-36hz tuning. will get ya louder (at least on a mic) and not muddy up the sound.

:+1: Cone area owns.

And Kents right. 30hz is aweful low for in car. Move up to a 36-38hz and squeeze out as much vB as You can. The bigger box will help keep the little but of low end that You normally lose when tuning higher.

If You can get 4ft net per driver, 12ish sq in of port / cube, tune around 36hz with the same amplifier, You should notice much more output to the ear. The bigger box will help make better use of Your amp as well.

You honeslty don't need louder in a dailydriver - but need & want are two different animals.

i heard that smaller boxes will be louder, sacraficing a little low end?

no way can i fit 4ft per driver. i might be able to get 3.5ft...but would 2.5ft be louder? also someone else was saying that dd recomends tuning of 40Hz...wouldn't that be pretty high for a daily driver? and there is no way i could fit 2 18's...i'm having trouble getting the 2 15 situated :(

Yeah I hear ya on the battle for space. Why not just tune higher and make a port plugg for lower daily?

Smaller boxes are louder on the Sensor cause you can put more power into them.

Larger boxes make the woofers more efficient, lower compliance. Louder to the ear.

You're going to run DD? LoL

40hz IMO is a but too high for daily. Highest I would tune any daily setup is 38. I've tried the whole spectrum from 29-46hz tunings with various woofers & boxes.... in the end, IMO anything 40hz or higher leaves NO low end harmonics. 34-38 leaves a nice hump.

I would change the box and double the power before swapping the RL-ps

i think i'm gonna go 5.5ft @ 38Hz w/ as much port as i can shove in it(hoping for ~120) then my next step is gonna be another ega1400d and strap them bit(hes :gift: i don't think i'm gonna go 7ft cause when i do get more power i don't think they'd like a box that big...

What kind of electrical upgrades do you have? Your gonna go def mang :woot:

big 3, stock 75amp alt. thats why i'm not getting another amp for a little bit...i'll have to build a bracket and wire in a 2nd alt. noone makes a ho for my car, and the biggest i can have mine rewound to is ~100A, which isn't much more :(

Ouch what kind of car do you have? I used to have an Explorer with a 200amp Powermaster alt and that was real nice. Now I got a camry and the biggest I can get is a 150. I'll have to make due with when it comes time to buy one, which is approaching soon :)

i dont know about with Rl-P's but RE XXX's sound damn good and damn loud with 30-35Hz tuning but if you get much below that it gets bottom heavy and not as loud.

And for Ava's, well lets just say i am tuning my 18 in the same are as you.

If you want more SPL shorten your port you have now and just keep doing it untill you get desired results or it just gets to be tuned too high.

head to head, the rl-p can more then keep up in sq, low end (the rl-p will actually play lower in medium sealed) and can compete in spl for awhile (the xxx will handle more power and iirc, it has the potential for more displacement)
