You can trim wires. However beware that the cutoff section of the wire doesn't overlap onto the other terminals and cause a short. It would probably be best to get a distro block.

    My amp has 4 gauge power and ground terminals would it be bad to trim the wire or should i just buy power and ground distribution blocks?

    I would just get a distribution block or find some wire reducers (I think thats what they are called and use them).
