Would it be smart to attach some sort of gasket to make an airtight seal between the box and subwoofer? If so what would you use?

yes, your subs didnt come with one?

You can go to partsexpress.com and use speaker foam.

For competition seals, you can use duct tape and weather stripping.

Dont mean to thread jack but I was wondering bout this earlier when I seen Jacob with duct tape on his subwoofer. I was wondering could you just cut your top layer baffle that will make the subs look flushed to maybe a little bit bigger than speaker outer frame and fit it tight so no air will leak or it wont work as good as duct tape or weatherstripping?

you can't cut a baffle so perfect that no air wouldnt escape if you do have air leaks around the sub...

The wood would have to lip over the sub's mounting points...

You know how hard it is just to drop a sub in a hole that precise?

Me and a buddy did that one time... we had to use allen wrenches ran through the mounting holes of the sub to perfectly drop it into place. One slight angle... and the sub wouldnt fit... It was a bitch!

Well appreciate ya, just looking for a better way to do it then duct tape (even though I know sometimes the cheapest and tackiest measures are the best).

SPEAKER FOAM TAPE from partsexpress...

That stuff helps pretty good.

Also look for rope caulk. Easiest stuff ever to use. It comes in a little box already rolled up into a string and you just unroll it around the sub and press it into place.
