June 15, 200520 yr I got the proto 12 back today. I didn't expect to see it come back with 3 scratches/chunks out of the surround, but oh well. I guess it'll just have to be inverted. NIck, I need some measurements off that puppy. I'm running inverted as well, so if you get a chance any time soon, I need to know the cutout diameter as close as possible without fear of the surround rubbing, and the heighth of the surround WITHOUT the gasket in place please.

June 17, 200520 yr This upper bass issue worries me.It shouldn't. It's a SUBwoofer, doing what SUBwoofers do. If anything, the smallish box should have accentuated the upper-end response. Since it didn't seem to do so, I think Nick hit the nail right on the head with this SUBwoofer.
June 17, 200520 yr Vented enclosure was too small, and you're talking about MIDbass out of a SUBwoofer. That 15 requires 3 cubes minimum vented.Kent's review was done with that he had on hand, which wasn't exactly optimum for this driver. Take it for what you will, but it was not a 100% working driver either.
June 17, 200520 yr Author josh...exactly what nick and ryan said. this wasn't the optimal box for the dirver, but it works in it. the proto has some internal damage, but it works. all in all, with everything considered, this sub did a wonderful job. it played the notes it was supposed to play and it played them very clearly.no, if anything, my review is more of a statement of what's wrong with my system, what it's lacking, not the sub. i'm currently running my rl-i 8 and i've still got the same problem. lack of mid bass. running these last two subs has made me realize that the s18x is just overpowering the rest of the system whereas these two were trying to do what they were supposed to do...blend in.if u've always wanted a mag or want a really nice sql sub, don't hesitate to buy the MAG. it really is a clean driver that can get really loud.wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
June 17, 200520 yr Drop your truck off here while you're in Jamaica. You'll have some nice holes in your doors by the time you get back.
June 17, 200520 yr Admin kent ole' buddy, any pix of the sweet little RL-i in action? what are you powreing it with? and it much be a shock to switch from the Solo X,just think, RL-i wall
June 18, 200520 yr Author ryan...the wifey says ok, but u have to make a couple of the payments first....lol..aaron..not yet...but pics will be happening this weekend. hopefully i'll get a digi camera and get a vid...and yeah, it's quite a difference in the truck...and it's getting 1700wrms (rated) from my orion 2500d, conservatitvely of course...hehewheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
June 18, 200520 yr Author nick, the proto will be shipped within the hour!!thanks again!! one day, i'd like to run ur 12 against the rl-p head to head...i think it would be an awesome test/comparo.wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
June 18, 200520 yr Author no way in hell, that coil wouldn't last ummm, yeah, it is. rated anyway, without graphing the impedence rise of the enclosure....unless an orion 2500d is way overrated at 2 ohm...also, like i stated elsewhere, while the gain on the amp is still set about 2/3 of the way, the sub control on the hu (eclipse 3434) is set on 8 outa 16....and no, it don't like 1700wrms (rated) at full tilt for more then one burp...lol....so in one sense, ur right...it's not getting the full 1700wrms all the time. but it has handled it, albeit very briefly. and that's all it'll ever handle it as i'm not popping it for no reason. ( i fuess that makes u right about two things...lol...the coil won't take it for long)wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
June 18, 200520 yr no way in hell, that coil wouldn't last ...unless an orion 2500d is way overrated at 2 ohm...Ding Ding Ding! We have a Winner! - For the record Impedence rise = female dog.so in one sense, ur right...it's not getting the full 1700wrms all the time. but it has handled it, albeit very briefly. and that's all it'll ever handle it as i'm not popping it for no reason. ( i fuess that makes u right about two things...lol...the coil won't take it for long)Briefly...of course...ever put 15kw of actual power to a "SQ" woofer for 3 seconds? You'll see pics soon...and numbers

June 21, 200520 yr making my new box already....bout 3.2 cubes sealed with doubled front baffleadd some bracing an im looking right about the 3 cube mark.hmmm....wondering if i should flush-mount it....
June 21, 200520 yr I am thinking about making a new box for mine as well. my current mag box is a 2.45 cuft. I like it alot, but since I am getting a new sub might just be time for a new box. Any excuse to build something.
June 21, 200520 yr making my new box already....bout 3.2 cubes sealed with doubled front baffleadd some bracing an im looking right about the 3 cube mark.hmmm....wondering if i should flush-mount it....<{POST_SNAPBACK}>What should I use to seal the joints in the box if I make one myself?

The woodglue should be enough. If you are worried about it, just run some silicone along the interior and let it cure.
June 21, 200520 yr The key there is that IF the cuts are straight. That is easier said than done if you don't have a table saw.and don't count on home depot/lowes to give you straight cuts, I do better with a circular saw than they do.but make sure you let your sealant cure as stated above.
June 21, 200520 yr Impedence rise = a female dog because it chokes power...you may think you have 1700 watts, odds are...it's more then half of that
June 21, 200520 yr Author Impedence rise = a female dog because it chokes power...you may think you have 1700 watts, odds are...it's more then half of that ok..i was hoping that was the message u were going to relay. we have a nice thread about it in the advanced topics forum...found out i did a 144.4 with about 1700wrms on the solo x even though it was wired to produce about 2800 (.5ohm)...so yeah, impedence rise kills.wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
