I need some pointers on how to begin my build. I have a 86 full size short bed chevy truck and there is no way I can get the kind of sound Im looking for with such little space behind the seat. I want to put the subs in the bed with a blow thru into the cab. Im not looking to compete in SPL or anything like that just want the kind of bass Im use to hearing (just sold my magnum and miss it already). Im running an Alpine CDA 9886 head unit and Kicker 3.5, 6.5 in the cab will be adding components soon.

The problem Im having is Ive never tried this before and dont know what type of enclosure to use or what subs for that matter. Ive always stuck to mainstream subs like JL, Kicker and Fosgate. The more I look at the forums the more I realize that most people are using stuff Ive never heard of!! Any info I can get on this setup would be a huge help. So basicaly I need to know what amp/sub/enclosure combo and how to set the bed up and I can get started, Thanks for reading all this!!

I posted this thread earlier in another section so if a mod could delete that one it would help, sorry.

Well welcome to the forum and hope you get the help your looking for.

What kind of budget are your working with? this will determin what will be going into your setup.

The whole mainstream product thing isn't necessarily a bad thing unless you don't know what you are doing with box building and installs. I prefer underground over mainstream companies. (SSA, sundown, Incriminator audio, Fi audio just to name a few.)\

I can guarantee that you will spend less money getting "underground" companies likes the ones listed above and be much happier, than spending that same money and going to your local shop and getting a lot less product

Budget is going to be a determining factor here to get a little further on what you might want.

When you decide what budget you have...then you can pick a sub and figure what size the enclosure will be...then you can work the dimensions for the cutout...then order the correct size boot...

Id like to see this one though as I wanted to do the same thing but in an ext cab 91. Went the easy route instead. Make sure you get pics of this build!

Welcome to SSA, glad you found the site. Many people who have become more informed and passionate about the hobby, have done the research and found higher quality and performance per dollar from many smaller brands, many of whom have a support forum section here. :)

Well all I really need to buy are the subs and have the enclosure built. I would like to try some of the SSA subs. Like I said I have no interest in competing just want it to sound good. I can do all the labor as far as cutting the cab and the bed.

Of the three SSA subs which would be the best one to go with in my situation? Im planning on basically cutting the cab/bed putting the boot in place and mounting the box in the hole. Pretty simple just making an SUV out of a truck essentially. I figure a ported box with 2 12's and the amp I already have which is a MTX 1200D would be enough for me. Just not sure on the box size or which series of SSA subs would be best.

I dont think its that simple though. Most blow-thru enclosures are not actually mounted in the hole but rather in the bed.

You didnt give a budget for the subs so I will assume there isnt one. Go with the Xcon. It is the top of the line driver for SSA. They will all sound great in the proper enclosure though.

I tried to look up the specs on your amp but Im unable to find any info on it. Are you sure of what brand and model it is?
