Posted June 8, 200520 yr Anyone know anything or had first-hand experience with these amps? I'm looking into buying one based on rep, but haven't had a listen to them. Any info is welcome. Thanks all.
June 8, 200520 yr My forte with "exclusive and exotic" amps led me right back to more familiar stuff. I found the others simply just a pain as far as support is concerned and that is one of my big issues. IF something happens, I don't want to wait 6 months for it to be fixed or replaced. I have had some troubles just getting emails and phone calls answered from a few "high-end" manufacturers and distributors, so I'm keeping it simple. Reputation-wise, they're great, just make sure you do all your homework before purchasing.
June 9, 200520 yr Author Good point..... too often I don't consider the customer service aspect which is extremely important. Thanks for the reminder.Since we're here, any other recommendations on other SQ oriented multi-channel amps?
June 9, 200520 yr My all-time favorite is the Audison HR100. A little out of budget for most, but just an amazing amp.I got the chance to listen to some Butler Tube Amps a couple months ago and fell in love. Thing is, they fell into that category I mentioned above. Same as Audison, but I heard some not too great things from one of their reps. You know it's bad when a company rep tells you to go elsewhere. My second all time favorites are the PPI Art Series. I just sold my entire stash to go with the Audisons, but of course that changed. I'm now dead set on the new Zed Audio amps. I know they're rleiable, well-built, have great features, and you know damn well Stephen Mantz is going to give great support.
June 9, 200520 yr Author What's the deal with the new Zed amps? Is Stephen Mantz designing amps for another company as he did for Hifonics, ESX, Autotek, etc.? Or has he started his own company? And when are his amps going to be available? Thanks for the heads up.
June 9, 200520 yr Author Never mind, just spent the last hour checking out his website and drooling over the Draconia. Seriously thinking about saving up for one of those.
June 9, 200520 yr Admin now that I look at their prices the ZED amps are not bad in price, Ryan you feel that they are that much better than the MB Quart (ie new RF's)?both have top end construction, just on different levels of production rate
