Posted June 22, 200520 yr how are these subwoofers in terms of SQ/SPLi know that focal is more of a SQ speaker rather than SPLbut i was wondering how 2 of these would sound with about 500 wattsrunning to each sub. Also, what kind of box would you put these in? Ported or SealedOne more thing, what kind of amp would you run to power theseI was looking at the PG Xenon 1200.1, or the RE 12.1, if you have any other reccomendations let me knowThanks in advance!
June 22, 200520 yr Author I doubt anyone around here has experience with Focal Subs.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>yeah i was kinda expecting to get that response but do you think they would hit hard as well as sound good with 500w going to each sub?
June 22, 200520 yr I have a limited amount of experence with them. I heard one in a sound board at a local shop. Atleast I think it was the access line...Mind you that ths was in a demo room so the sound will be different then in a car.The sub sounded very good to my ears. It was ran off what looked to be an older PPI amp. Tech at the shop said it was 450 watts. I do beleive that this sub had some SQL attributes. I dont off hand remember what they were asking for it, but I remember it was quite a bit.If I may ask or suggest, have you looked at the Sound Splinter RL-P or the Stereo Integrity Mag D2? These are highly reguarded SQL woofers. I feel that they will do just as good of a job if not better then the focals. Just a thought.

I can get 2 of these for $419 w/o shipping and correct me if im wrong but the RL-P's are $430/pair w/o shipping havent heard of Stereo Integrity (website?) how are these subs?
June 22, 200520 yr i have zero experience with the access subs, but i've played with the utopia line. they were really nice sql (heavy on the sq) woofers, but very, very pricey. i've also dealt with focal warranty/customer service. try 4 months to replace a tweet and mid due to shop stupidity.all that adds up to the rl-ps just being a better choice all the way around. sounds just as good,if not better, and has the potential to get louder with the best customer service in the world.SI has a forum right here, and their subs measure up to the rl-ps. nick is also on par with mike when u consider customer service. teh d2's are a lil pricier then the rl-ps, but they are in stock i believe. ( with an introductry price IIRC)wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
June 23, 200520 yr Author what amp would you guys run regardless of which subs i geti was looking at a Soundstream Tarantula 880/2RE 12.1or a PG Xenon 1200.1
June 23, 200520 yr Honestly it would be best for you to decide on an amp or subs first. You cant really generalize for both. Coose a sub or amp and the other will be much easier. I noticed that you are in new york, there is bound to be someone on this forum and a few others that own an RL-P that will let you take a listen. Then you will have heard both.Oh and as far as the SI subs, I probly shouldnt have made the comment about them because they are still in production for the first run. You will have to wait on them. But from many others they are amazing subs too.

June 23, 200520 yr Admin wow just checked out that Stereo Integrity Mag D2 that thing is EXPENSIVE!!!!im a very indecisive person so, sorry if i get on anybodys nervers here lolbut maybe i should get 2 of the new type-r's ?the MAG is an amazing sub, I was the first to test it (12") see momentum article posted in the announcemnets section, the MAG is on preorder or just ended, you can get direct pricing, Nick is very helpful and will make sure you are happy with your purchse, the RL-p is also an awesome sub, Mike is very good with customer service, he will have more subs in very soon, both subs are worht waiting for, and I feel it is better to get the top end from either Mike or Nick, than get the mid level from Focal, dont get me wrong I love focal, they are always on my wish list, but the MAG and RL-p are both very capable subs,if you are running higher power the MAG might be the choice, but for lower power (less than 1000) the RL-p might be the one called for, very tough decision, I have one and I want both java script:emoticon(' ')smilie
June 24, 200520 yr Author i think im gonna end up getting 2 12" RL-P's and run them with about 500 watts each i really dont feel like upgrading my interiors because my car is a lease so i figure just get the RL-P's with 500 watts each which should match my car perfectly and then when i get my new car which will be much better than my current car i wont mind doing a full audio upgradeedit: what amp would you guys run for 2 12" RL-P's i was thinking the RE 12.1any other suggesstions? let me know TIA
