I really don't have the time right now to build a box for my sub. I've been in contact with three local shops that I've done business with before, and here are the options they gave me. Two of them have pre-made ported boxes (I know, I know) for $70. One of them can do a custom box for $125 and another one can do one for $150.

I have a sealed box that I was going to use for the time being. I could get the pre-fab box within the next month or so. Otherwise I'd probably need to wait until sometime this spring to get one custom built.

So, would it just be better to run my sub sealed for now and wait a little longer for a custom box? I didn't think that $125 or $150 was that bad of a price, but I don't have much experience with buying custom boxes.

What subs, what amp, what car/truck? I personally would never do prefab.

Depending on the size of the box it can be good price but you still can build your own cheaper. Car audio is all about compromise so yeah a sealed box will due (if your sub can be in a sealed box) until you get what you want, I wouldnt do the prefab box because that is 70 that you could of spent on a custom box.

In my signature.

The guy who built my sub it said it would work fine in the sealed box I have, but I need to sand the cutout a little. It's just a tad bit too small for the basket to fit down into. I'll definately have enough money for a new box by July (birthday money), so I could get by going sealed until then. I wasn't sure if those were good prices for a custom box or not?

Custom built 10" dual 1 ohm sub.......tells us absolutely nothing. How well your sub will or will not perform sealed or ported, and what enclosure sizes and/or tuning, is entirely dependent upon the parameters of the subwoofer. Any idea what the T/S parameters are?

As for cost.....the prices for the custom built ported enclosures are fair if they are quality built enclosures.

He didn't give me the T/S parameters. I just asked for recommended enclosure sizes and RMS rating. It was built by ssackett that's on here (and a few other forums).

You should at least gotten the T/S Parameters just in case, that would of been the smartest thing to do besides getting just the rms and enclosure sizes.

Edit: Found them, but mine has dual 1 ohm coils. Not sure how much that affects these numbers.

If it is custom you can't "find them" and yes the coils will change them. There has to be a reason why he recommended a certain size enclosure and without T/S I wouldn't venture outside his recommendations.

Another reason why "custom" drivers RARELY make any sense. If you don't have a particular application where you need something changed and fully understand what you are doing sticking with a stock unit is a heck of a lot more logical.

Thanks. I found them on his for sale thread, but that was for his original single 4 ohm sub. The reason I went with this sub was because it fell in my budget at the time and he said that it would work well with the power and enclosure that I currently have.

Sorry for sounding so dumb. I'm still trying to learn.

Unfortunately there will not necessarily be any correlation between the parameters for the sub you "found" and your particular subwoofer considering we know at the very least the coils are different.

As M5 pointed out, it was unfortunately a noobie mistake to buy a sub without knowing anything about it. I would recommend trying to getting in contact with the seller and see if he can provide accurate T/S parameters. Without them, we can't help you with enclosure selection. I'd hope the seller would be able to provide accurate T/S parameters.....but unfortunately we also have no way to verify their accuracy, which makes it sort of a crap shoot.

Yeah, maybe I should have just stuck with my original plan and saved my money for some IA's or DC's. I'll go with his recommendation and call it good.
