Here it is boys and girls. My first post with pics. So I got these floorstanders back in 96. I was just out of high school, and had no clue. I wanted a home theater with bass. No better way of getting that then with big woofers, so with my pay check I did just that. I bought the biggest ones Montgomery Wards had, that I could afford. Long story short I was satisfied with my purchase. Fast forward a decade and a half. I'm out of my parents house in my own with a wife and kids. I look in my parents shed and look what I find, my old Jensens. I think to myself, these were the sh!t back then, let's hook them back up. I've got a new setup, all the latest and greatest. I hook them up, pop in some blah, blah, blah, and disappointment. So, let me show you what I did.

Here she is in all here dusty glory. Remember only one is pictured, but I modified both.

What came out and what's going in. Ignore the date on the pic, I'm embarrassed by how long it took me to post this.

The actual modification of the cabinet.

The finished product. 2 4" flared ports, aprox 3.5ft^3. The tune, around 28Hz. Both powered by a Behringer EP2500. The sound? Just how I remembered it. Don't worry about the mids and highs, they're of the sealed back variety and not connected. Enjoy.

:fing34:, dont know if I missed it but what subs did you use to replace the Jensen's with?

15" Ascendant Audio Avalanche. :)

:rockwoot: nice.

i have been wanting to do the same thing to my kenwood jl-703's, thinkin about putting some sundown audio sa-12's in them lol, what do you think?

I say go for it, plus it's the green thing to do. If you like it it doesn't end up in the land fill. I was hoping to but never got a chance to put these in my mustang as is. They would have fit nicely side by side with the rear seat folded down. I know I would have gotten laughed at, but it would have been priceless to see people's jaw drop when I'd post 140+ with a pair of old school home stereo floor standers. :)

Let me know what you all think. Thanks for looking.

They sound awesome. Gobs of out put. Boomey on rock music. I EQed them a bit using a Behringer DSP1124 eq. I got measurments using the Room EQ Wizard software from the Hometheater Shack forum. Night club levels, no problem. Poor cabinets, at full tilt you can hear the wood flexing. They're only 5/8" thick particle board. It's only a mater of time before one ends up splitting. Till then, no mercy. Muahahahahah!

Looks good and you are right the box is going to come apart. I did something similar with a pair of Fisher speakers. Have fun with them.

Thanks. They've been bumping hard since '07. I'm starting to think about just reinforcing them with some 1/2" all thread. Who knows maybe it's time for a rebuild. Any suggestions?

I would use mdf triangles to add extra support.

Here are some pics of my mids and highs. They are Hawthorne Audio Silver Iris 15" Co-ax. These are meant to be run open baffle. For the sake of being different I mounted them by the magnet. I wrapped the basket with a cut up towel in a sleeve like manner. I don't have pics of that but you can see it in the video I posted previously. Here we go:

The speaker

Here is the magnet mount setup. It kind of tricky to see, but the mount is holding onto the mid-driver magnet. The exposed magnet is that of the compression driver. The inside of the pole piece is shaped to be a horn for the compression driver.

This is a close up of the crossover. It was originally mounted on a slab of mahogany. I went this route for a more industrial look. :P

Another up close and personal with the crossover.

This is my setup. Well this was the old setup with my old glass tube TV.

So I've decided to try something different. I'm getting rid of the Avas and going with some JBL GTi subs. I'm starting off with two, but will eventually step it up to four. For now it will be a direct swap. Out with the old and in with the new. Here a few pics.

Here are some side by side pics.

I was a little worried the JBL wouldn't drop into my cabinet because of it's mounting depth. It made it in with an inch and a half to spare.

First impressions: I'm all smiles. I got a new receiver along with my new subs so I'm still working out the kinks. My system goals have always been to to have good sound quality at moderate levels, but still have the ability to achieve night club dance levels. My boxes are tuned to around 28Hz. This sounds too high for movies, but I've have no issues shaking the walls watching movies from the Hurt Locker to Kung Fu Panda. I'm running both subs to a Behringer EP 2500, one to each channel. Since the subs are dual 6 ohm I wired them down to 3 ohms. That's pushing it for this amp, but hardly ever go full tilt. When I do, it's for a song or two, mainly showing off to friends. :P I got a second amp I'm just raising funds for the next two. Till then stay tuned.

What's up everybody. It's been a while since I've given this thread some love. This is a special thread for me, as it is the first thread I posted pics in. Anyways, I thought I'd post some pics of my new center channel.

Yes, it's in the fireplace.
