I got my recone/basket in today and i cut my old sub up and was about to put the new one together when i realized that it didn't come with a gasket. will running it without the gasket for a few days hurt the woofer in any way?

Put speaker tape on the underside of the mounting ring, you'll be fine.

What should I do to get the screws that hold the 15" basket to the magnet out?

You've never reconed or rebasketed a woofer have you?

No, is it obvious?

Yes, it is difficult to get right if you've never done it, do you know anyone to help you? Us telling you on here is much more different than someone showing you.

Fi i've got a BTL 15 that got a hole in it from a drill and i wanted to recone it since that happened, last friday i had enough moeny to order it so I did. it came in this afternoon, and i got started on it when i got home from work tonight i've gotten the moving parts out of the old one and while trying to get the screws out got stuck and that's where i am now do you recommend a special bit to get the screws out? they look like regular phillips heads but when i put a screw driver on 2 of them the heads stripped a bit so I stopped

1) Why are you trying to remove the motor?

2) The most common screws for motors are 6mm x 13mm, I'm not sure if Fi uses the standard though. Although I imagine they do.

I'm removing the motor because I'm changing my sub, going from a 15" to an 18".

Okay, thanks for clarifying.

There is a dab of CA glue on the screw heads right?

You'll probably need an impact screwdriver to take them out, you can get a manual one you hit with a hammer, an electric powered, or pneumatic.

Don't go apeshit though, ferrite isn't indestructible and can break if too much force is applied. There is no way to loosen CA after activated that I know of.

if that doesn't work what would you suggest? and do I have to use CA glue when I bolt the thing back together or could I just use thread locker?

Did the kit not come with CA? Epoxy works well too.

I talked to a friend just now that I knew used to install car audio as a side job, but i didn't know that he knew as much as he knows about car audio, he told me to go to walgreens, get an insulin needle and use it to put a little paint thinner under the heads of the screws to melt the CA glue, i did that and it worked now i'm just waiting til a machinery supply co. here in austin opens up to buy some new bolts since some of them had the heads stripped out. thanks for all the help you've given me.

Got another question, i got my re-cone put in and together, then i hooked up my amp and the thing shook ripped itself apart, spiders separated from basket, so I went out and bought some CA glue and hardener, talked to the guy at the hobby store and he told me which one was supposed to be the strongest, so I got that one, stripped all the epoxy off and cleaned it up with paint thinner and a file and put a fat bead of CA glue down on the spider and surround, and just wanted to know how long the glue will need to set up before i can hook my sub up to my amp.

What do the instructions say, usually when it comes to glue or any adhesive I usually wait 24 hours just to be safe.

24 hours for CA to harden normally, you need to clamp it everywhere as well. Are you sure you had it lined up? It sounds like it wasn't.

the instructions just say apply glue to one surface and hardener to other and hold for 10 seconds, it can't fully cur that quick can it?
