March 19, 201015 yr Piece of wood (mdf) or other and attatch it to your door and mount your speaker to that. Seal around the baffle and all open holes in your door.would a piece of drywall work also?

March 19, 201015 yr You don't need a whole lot of sound deadener for the doors either. I used about 3-4 cu.ft. to deaden mine. Some people recommend sealing the doors as well. That means cover up the holes in the door panel with something. I've heard of gluing wood or plexi over the holes or using clay for smaller holes. I tried duct tape and I was surprised that it actually made the door speakers a little louder. I just used strips in an overlaping fashion over the big holes. I'd say its worth trying and can't really hurt anything.
March 19, 201015 yr i just covered my entire inside of the door with sound deadener lol! 3 layers behind the speaker, 2 ontop of that and 1 ontop by the window line! and on the bottom about 2 layer again! it took forever lol!

I didn't go all out like that. I strategically placed pieces on flat surfaces where the metal could vibrate. I just went around tapping the door in various spots with the handle of my roller to figure out where I needed more deadener. If it didn't ring out at all, I was good.
March 19, 201015 yr lol overkill ftw lol!! plus the door shuts a lot better now! sure it is heavier... lol!! OP and rule of thumb dont' BUTT up deadener to each other provided you are going to go though with deadener lol! actualy how long do you plan on keeping the car?

Duct tape will make a not very effective seal. Need something with some mass, in fact the more the better. I usually deaden the plastic for that reason, but some MLV would be even better.crap b/c i ended up using drywall! lol it happens i guess! When that gets wet your eff'd. I take it apart and fix it pronto.

Sure the Duct tape isn't a solid seal. But I would bet it blocks out some of the higher frequencies from canceling out with the front wave, which would make sense why it seemed a little louder after I did it.

March 19, 201015 yr crap water is bad.. i guess i am on the hunt for some wood! thanks for the tipcrap b/c i ended up using drywall! lol it happens i guess! When that gets wet your eff'd. I take it apart and fix it pronto.
March 19, 201015 yr Lol, look up the stc of duct tape.Couldn't find it, maybe you can inform me.Basically non existent.
March 19, 201015 yr Lol, look up the stc of duct tape.Couldn't find it, maybe you can inform me.Basically non existent. But it's better then nothing, especially with the minimal work it takes to do and nearly no cost since most people usually have a roll of duct tape at home.

Most people might be intimidated by your SSA tech team and your 40,000 posts and just take your word for it. I think, however, that you are just against it because it's not the "proper" thing to do. Yea, there are better ways to get a better result, but this does have some effect and you can't deny that.
March 20, 201015 yr Author I'm not sure how long I'll keep the car but I have learned alot about this and when I get this court stuff payed off I'll be lookin at some deadner install
March 20, 201015 yr good plan! keep us updated and make sure to take some pics and post up a build log!

Don't answer loudness without responding to what frequencies either. It isn't about intimidation, just science and we'll get to the bottom of it

March 21, 201015 yr Duct tape to seal the doors? Wtf is going on here?Would anyone seal their sub box with tape? No? A seal's a seal, right?Notice the sarcasm and rhetoric questions.I'm all about DIYing and doing it better, cheaper, but there's a line where things are either done right or half assed. Duct tape is half assed, as Mr. Donald Duck Tape illustrated
