Posted July 28, 200520 yr i have an audiobahn 4002T amp and i am gonna be getting some money from my scholarships that i didnt use for tuition. i dont have a whole lot of money and i am runnin stock battery and alternator so i cant go too many watts. i may get a new amp someday, but if i do it wont be over 600 watts. anyways, i have 400 watts bridged at 4 ohms and i am trying to figure out what sub i want. i know i want 1 12" and a ported box tuned to 30-32 Hz. i want pretty decent SQ, i want it to hit low, hit hard, and get loud. so basically LSQ. i am between the RE SX and the Rl-p but i just cant decide. since the SX is only dual 4 ohm, i can wire it to 2 ohms or 8 ohms. i am a little worried about this because i am used to 4 ohms. i am pretty sure my amp is 2 ohm stable but i've only had it at 4 ohms. any advice?
July 28, 200520 yr Admin there are a bunch of RL=p D2 12's for sale around you could nab for a great price
July 28, 200520 yr the SX is DVC2 as well...IMO (from owning a 15" SX and hearing reviews of the RL-p)the RL-p will have better low-end the SX will be slightly louder in the upper-sub-bass region

July 29, 200520 yr Author i think i may have decided on the Rl-p but i am not for sure. how would the Rl-p in a ported box compared to an SX in a sealed box? i dont really know what i am looking for here because i havent had a lot of experience in car audio. I know that the lower tuning frequency you go, the better SQ, but i dont know what 28 Hz or 34 Hz sounds like so its tough for me to decide what i want. the only ported system i've heard is a friend of mine has 2 12" RF T1's in a big ported box, i dont know what it is tuned to though and neither does he. i listen to a variety of music from jay-z and three 6 mafia, to mushroomhead and hawthorne heights. i am just afraid that if i get a ported box custom built, that i will not like it because i dont know what to expect. any advice is appreciated.
July 29, 200520 yr The SX will probably shine in output but it wont have anything close to the RL-p in SQ
July 29, 200520 yr u tune fairly low, 34hz, u'll sound almost as good as sealed, IMO, and gain the extra output of ported. if u tune any lower, u'd better have strong midbass to pickup where the sub is going to drop off. also, u'll gain a bit mor sq, but ur overall output will suffer.u'll like tuned low vented enclosures...u willwheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
July 29, 200520 yr Author i will take your word that 34 Hz is about equal to sealed, that makes me feel a little bit better because i was afraid that if i tuned too low it wouldnt get too loud. i am running stock 6.5's and 3.5's up front and i have the rear 6x9's disconnected. the stock speakers sounds real good for stock, and i dont plan to upgrade for a while but hopefully someday i'll get some comp's.
