I'm going to be getting these comps installed-

CTX65CS - Image Dynamics 6.5" Component Speaker System 2.75" mounting depth

I currently have these installed

SPS-500 - Alpine Type-S 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers 2" mounting depth

I'm going to be upgrading to the larger size for the front speakers, from 5 1/4 to 6 1/2. My concern is in regards to speaker mounting depth. The alpine coaxials have a mounting depth of 2", the ID's have a mounting depth of 2.75". Is there a way to make the ID's work? How would I find out the max mounting depth of the speaker ports for my car? Thanks!

Well I would have to say get in there and check it out yourself. Don't know what car you have but if the speakers mount in the door make sure the window clears them when its all the way down. It would be good to know what car you have so if other member with the same car can help you and where & how the speakers mount for those of us who don't.

I installed some ADS speakers recently into the front doors of my jeep cherokee and those puckers were deep, I ended up having to make a ring of wood for the speaker to sit in so the window would clear, then the tweeters were touching the plastic grill of the door panels so I cut those out, then I put a metal grill on the door panel to keep the speakers protected and clean up the look.

Sorry, I was under the impression you had the speakers. I would measure from the edge of the mounting hole with the window down to see what space you're working with.

Allow common sense to prevail.

Roll your windows down (if the speakers are mounted in the car's doors), remove your current speakers (assuming new speakers will be mounted in the same location) and measure the depth, with a measuring tape, from the mounting baffle (the surface that the speaker will be screwed into) to the closest obstruction directly behind the speaker opening. You do know how to read and use a measuring tape, correct? This length, as measured by the measuring tape, will be your available mounting depth. If your measurement is less than 2.75" (you do know how to convert that to a fraction, correct?), then you presently do not have enough mounting depth for your new speakers and will have to investigate the option of making a speaker ring to create enough depth for the speakers. If your measurement is greater than 2.75", then you have enough depth already.

How do you plan to install 6.5" diameter speakers in a location that presently holds speakers that are only 5.25" in diameter? Are you using a mounting baffle/plate for your current speakers? Or are you going to modify the speaker opening to fit the larger speakers? Or mounting the new speakers in a different location?

I"m asking for help not a smart ass response. I did measure and i don't have enough mounting depth. I've read about spacers that can increase the mounting depth but someone in another forum said that SQ would suffer if was to use them. Oh and yes I'm going to make the port larger to fit the speaker and then use a spacer to increase the mounting depth. That is the plan right now anyway unless I get a suggestion otherwise. I don't want SQ to suffer but will be getting sound deadener installed in both front doors at the same time this is all getting done so that may help.

No, it won't.

spacers do not play a role in SQ they just give a little boost from the surface.
