Posted April 25, 201015 yr I'm looking to try a new driver in my home theater and after hearing nothing but good stuff about Fi I think its time to give them a try.I am considring the Q15 or Q18. The enclosure is sealed with a net volume around 7 cubic feet. The amp is a Face F1200TS and I will run the sub off of one channel leaving the other channel free for a second sub in the near future. I have a dcx2496 in the chain between my Marantz 7002 and the Face amp.I am open to suggestions if anyone has an opinion of a different Fi driver to try.
April 25, 201015 yr I really hate to do this since it's posted on Fi's subforum, but since you askedPersonally I got my eye on this one for my own HT upgrade.RL-p Premium
April 25, 201015 yr Author Yes sir, those TC built drivers are nice .The things that are driving me toward Fi is the customization options, customer service and the availability of fairly priced recone kits.
April 25, 201015 yr The Rl-p doesn't use the LMS though does it? And there is always the IB3 for HT, can't throw that out.
April 25, 201015 yr Author I believe you are correct about the lack of the LMS motor. Unfortunately I dont have the ability to use an IB set up. I have cathedral ceilings with no attic in my theater room and my house is built on a slab foundation. I will model one to see how they react in a large sealed enclosure though.
April 26, 201015 yr Just built a subwoofer for a customer using a Fi Q and a 500 watt Dayton plate amp. Almost 8 cuft tuned to 21-22 Hz.Just finished another home subwoofer build - SSA Car Audio ForumIt is awesome.
April 28, 201015 yr Author Nick , Any problems running the IB3 18 in a sealed enclosure other than wasting some of the excursion ?
April 28, 201015 yr Why? It will not damage the driver just because it is used in a box, but the driver was designed for free air applications.I would stick with the Q.
April 28, 201015 yr Author Why? It will not damage the driver just because it is used in a box, but the driver was designed for free air applications.I would stick with the Q. The IB3 is a little more efficient from about 45 hz down to around 19 hz.in modeling for my enclosure. Thats the reason for asking. Edited April 28, 201015 yr by Rightbrained
April 28, 201015 yr Author It seems like I never stop working on mine. Always trying different amps ,speakers , and subs.
