Posted August 11, 200520 yr and i'm going to be lazy..lol..but here's the start of the bookshelf speakers for my boy's room....i'll be using memphis mclass crossovers for now...but anyway..onto the pics...the box and what's inside...1.5" flared port tubes....yep, gotta go vented!!textile dome tweeters..for that warm, fuzzy sound...lolwhat?? more boxes??? 6.5 (or 7, whichever) alum cone mid/subs......can u say wheeeeeeeeeeeeee??now, to figure out the cabinets.......wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
August 23, 200520 yr Author and here's the finished product!!!they are 2db louder then the OEM pos's according to my RS meter. same songs, same mic location....i even did it with one of the new speakers sitting on the floor!!!anyway, on with the show....one stained, one not..from the front and back....red mahagony stain (he likes it)everything installed....what he had.....old vs new...and the new setup...while the new is head and shoulders better then the old, his radio sucks balls. so that will get replaced soon...wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
August 23, 200520 yr Author yeah, i do...even freeair, they had a tremendous amount of bass for what they are and the power they were getting!his radio just introduces way too much distortion, regardless of speaker used....i'm going to hook them up to the pioneer tomorrow just to listen to them some more!btw, those are ~.66ft^3 enclosures, tuned to ~40hz...it's a great combination!wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
August 23, 200520 yr Not bad...once I get speakers for them, I promise I'll show more pics of your creations that I have
August 23, 200520 yr Author thanks jim! i don't like the stain, but the dayton's look good in there..also, i have no clue if the setup is correct..lol...but after reading over at ditaudio, i decided teh port should be directly behind the tweeter, with the tweet and mid inline and about 6" from center to center. it sounds better darn good, but i have yet to really listen to it...can't wait to see ur cabinets with drivers in them!wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
August 23, 200520 yr I've found that rear-firing ports have better midrange dispersion...and you can get better in-room gains by corner loading them. Same thing goes for PR's, too.
August 23, 200520 yr Author cool...i'll have to try corner loading them.....about how far away should i put them from the corner?wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
August 23, 200520 yr Are those Xovers optimized at all for the speakers, or did you sort of kludge that together?
August 23, 200520 yr Author they are actually memphis mclass 4x6 xovers...i don't have a clue where to start on designing/building my own. so i threw this big memphis bandaid in there for now...so don't laugh at me to hard...wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
August 23, 200520 yr Author pic showing the xovers...look into the boxes..u'll see them...lol..wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
August 23, 200520 yr true OG-style...whatever makes it work Hell, for something like that you could probably get away with a simple 1st order Xover setup, if you're short on power.
August 23, 200520 yr the x-over parts for my bookshelves cost almost as much as the drivers themselves
August 23, 200520 yr You used Black Gates and Auricaps, didn't you...true OG's wind their own inductors...
August 23, 200520 yr You used Black Gates and Auricaps, didn't you...true OG's wind their own inductors...nope, just used whatever i could find at Madisound28 pieces for the 2 x-overs...
August 23, 200520 yr The tweeter is crooked. That CD player is weak, those speakers are probably getting a good 20-30W, if that.
August 23, 200520 yr Author The tweeter is crooked. That CD player is weak, those speakers are probably getting a good 20-30W, if that.i wanted the tweeter crooked..the cd player is weak...going to buy him a new one...and it's rated 25wrms @ 4ohm....but i doubt it..lol..but thanks for the input..hehewheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
August 23, 200520 yr Author and i went for cheap..lol...those xovers were free...figured they would work well enough for now. i might upgrade them later, i'm going to wait till after i buy him a new bookshelf to decide.wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
August 23, 200520 yr Admin I would say find a good single CD player online and fine a sweet classic amplifer/receiver from a yard sale
