Hey guys,

I'm bullshittin' ideas around in my head about a temp daily set-up.

until i do my BL

What kind of electrical would i need for the set up listed below?

I'm thinking a 350amp Alt from DC Power and a D3100 as a starter battery.

AQ3500D.1

4 ohm power @ 14.4V @ 1% THD 1400W x 1

2 ohm power @ 14.4V @ 1% THD 2600W x 1

1 ohm power @ 14.4V @ < 1% THD 4300W x 1

AA SMD 18"

RMS 3500w

Also, if i were to double the equipment, could i still use a single alt and add another D3100? -- Or would that add too much then recommended stress on the alternator?

Thanks guys! :fing34:

with a 350A alt, a single d3100 should do fine even with both amps. The alt should take care of all or most of the load so you wouldnt need a large reserve.

Really? Thats awesome to hear, a dual alt bracket isn't something i was looking forward to doing at the moment.

The output should be much greater then BTLs and AQ2200s

...i hope.

Thoughts anyone?

Yes i know, 90 percent is install dependent.. but in a right sized enclosure, tuned correctly etc etc

As of now i'm talking about a reg. slot ported box behind the seats of my ext cab tuned around low 30's

Type your little notations bigger buddy, just put PS. in front of them or something (makes it hard to read with small letters). :peepwall:

Yeah it will come down to the install but the SMD's wouldnt have been made if they werent superior to the BTL's.

So the SMD is built high or superior quality or performance compared to a BTL, which will result in a better piece of equipment.. which then will result in a bigger :D ?

In this thread im referring to 1 driver, but in the near future im going to be having quite a build. As many 18/15" drivers i can fit in the bed of my truck.

I read that the SMD cost 1200.00 the BTL cost 414.00

Is the SMD that much better in performance?

I thought one of the main purposes behind the SMD was to have good performance in a smaller box than the mayhem and BTL, I read that a few times over at the SMD forum. There wouldn't be anything wrong with throwing a D3400 or D1200 in the back would there :)? By the way, you know the mods you need to make for the group 31 up front right?

No sir, please.. do tell.

Oh, I was thinking it was a more recent GMC, I remember pics you have had before now that I think of it. Well go make some measurements and see what you have to work with up there, I was thinking that they have group 34s though. 31s are a good bit bigger.

OH, size issues. I thought you ment a more electrical mods. i'll have the room, there is a shit load of room, if not.. i'll make it work :)

But what do you think about post number 7

I also read it would sound better than the BTL, but with that power it will be hard to tell haha. Personally that seems pretty expensive for a sub, that's TC Sounds LMS pricing almost haha. I am sure there are benifits if it is supposed to use a smaller box and you have a truck, you still might be able to sit and drive it!!! I guess no one has really tried them... care to write a review? lol

Yeah i'd wright a review, there isn't really any out.. I'm just deciding on if i should get the BTL or the SMD. I already have an AQ2200 that would push the BTL and that is what makes me think about getting it over the SMD, BUT.. the SMD looks amazing and if it's built better, sounds better, and is more of a beast i'll end up getting it. EVEN THOUGH! When i do my blow though, i'll have to go with SMD because i already own one.. and THAT would get expencive QUICK!

Does anyone know the actuall price tag? - i've read a couple different numbers.

Around 1000$ sometimes more, sometimes less, but you need to buy them at a shop that sells Asendant Audio.

If you want a price tag on the SMD, then contact the AA Dealer in your area or on this forum and ask (that is the only way to get the real price ) :peepwall:

Well i was on another forum and they said that the double stacked motor will cause coil rub and other problems when mounted anyway besides sub up.

Also someone mentioned a shit load of mechanical noise..

I think im going too stay with the BTL.

Like said earlier for more information on the sub and how it works your better off asking a dealer or emailing Nick or Scott at Fi, they would know more than anyone else on a forum. :ehh:

I was hoping they would chime in on this thread.

I doubt it considering the topic name has nothing to do with SMD subwoofer or the fact that is not even in either one of their sections :suicide-santa:

LOL, please stay away from the "other" forum.(it's probably caraudio.com)

Scott and Nick know what they do, if the subs would have coil rub or more mechanical noise they wouldn't relaese it to the public.(that's why Steve Meade got the first pairs, to test/abuse them)

The have a special mouting thing on the back for it to mount otherways then sub up.

Don't think it has more mechanical noise then a RE XXX, or other high excursion subwoofers, you wouldn't hear the mechanical noise anyways.(the sound that the subwoofes produce would be waaaaaaaayyy louder then mechanical noise.)
