Posted May 27, 201015 yr ok i have a 2002 dodge dakota extended cab, and i was thinking of putting 4 SA-8's in the back area after taking out the back seat. i will get the D4 coil configuration and run 2 off a dsc1000.1 and the other 2 off another dsc1000.1 (each sub will get 500watts) now i have no clue how to design a box, the only other ported box i made someone else designed for me and i built it. i dunno max dimensions of the box but if you tell me how many cubes it has to be i can figure out how to make that size box fit where it needs to, also for the "easy" factor id like to use aero ports instead of a slot port design, so what size and lengh aeros would i need? and where can i buy those? id like it to be tuned to around 35hz. thanks guys! May 28, 201015 yr So you are going to strap the two MB Quart amps?Either way, sundown audio recommends something between .6 and 1.0 cuft per sub for the SA-8s, so if you can figure out how you want to do that, go for it!Here is a good site to calculate necessary port area/length:port stuffHere is an aero port calculation:aero port calculation stuff
May 28, 201015 yr I'm running 4-SA8 D2's in a 5cu net enclosure with 3-4" psp aeroports tuned to 33hz powered by a Sundown SAZ-1500D @1ohm. In my particular vehicle (Ford Escape) it fills the cabin well and suprises any and everyone that listens to it. It isn't until they see that it REALLY is just 8's that they get even more impressed with the sounds.
May 30, 201015 yr Author ok guys, i came up with a box myself, i just want to confirm with you guys if this sounds rightbox will be 3.2 cubes with 2 4" aero ports with a length of 14.35 inches each. the calc you linked me says that will tune it to 35hz. that sound about right to you guys?and on a side note are you still able to order these in the SSA store, i know it lists them but are they still being made? May 30, 201015 yr I think that you would want more port area than that, I'd use at least 3 4" aeros. You would have to recalculate your design a bit to account for the extra port displacement if you wanted to keep the tuning at 35Hz. Each of the ports would have to be about 23" long. You could still use even more port area, cause the SA-8s have a usable throw of 25mm and they use it all. Edited May 30, 201015 yr by Don Ganso

May 30, 201015 yr That box sounds good for them. i have 4 sa8s in 3 cubes and 2-4inch ports. sound craazy. they will be available again very soon. i believe they are currently sold out.

I just know that there is not enough port area for a non-flared port, but because Steve has had experience with a similar set-up, I would be inclined to ask him. If he says it sounds good probably does.
June 1, 201015 yr Yeah ports out the side is good. Like don said just make sure you have plenty of room for the vents to vent. You can order aeros from parts express I believe. I think jacobs getting more 8s early mid june

Each opening is supposed to be the diameter of the tube away from any obstruction is all I know... I think... lol
