  • Probably not known in the US but the 3.2 V6 24valve from alfa romeo. Looks great( yes the engine itself), sounds amazing and keeps on going, doesn't break down engine wise if you follow the services.

You bunched the Zetec and Duratec in the same category ...

The Zetec was originally made by Ford but had serious problems. Ford then contracted Yamaha to redesign and make the engine for them.

The 4-cylinder Duratec was developed and is made by Mazda (same as the MZR series). Duratec engines with more than 4 cylinders are not made by Mazda. Yes, it's confusing, but it's Ford ...

I also forgot the F-series for Honda (F20C/F22C = S2000 engine)

hate to say it, but Honda has changed the face of the industry over the last couple of decades. seriosuly. think about how much it has affected the manufacturers, aftermarket, pro sport, and culture in general.

Hayabusa engine in a sport car???????????? In a 3000 lb block of steel? With a tiny 1300cc engine?

Denim as for the poll, I think it should be 2 polls per engine size. One for modded and one for stock as my chioce would change depending on which. For example stock I would say Honda engine. But modded I would say Mitsu or Nissan. Just a thought.

Tons of small sports car companies have been using them ... sometimes even a pair ... Most of the cars with the fastest 0-100-0 times use either the GSX1300R, CBR1000RR, or Kawasaki ZX1000R engines ...

Porsche 6 cyl definetly has to be on that list.

Nissans I6, dunno the disp or cars it was in.

BMW I6, 3/M3/5 series.

There are two others that NEED to be included, and an extra:

As you might guess I would put in the:

E34, S28 BMW M5 straight six (1991-1994 US)

1964 Ford 427 SOHC. Based on the FE series engine (Std Ford block of the time) was the first major US engine with overhead cames. So destructive in its time that it was banned pretty much from every competition it was entered in.

And from a reliability standpoint, the best 6 ever made was:

The BMW 535i I6. Super reliable, torquey, and real easy to work on.

6 cyl list..

porshe flat 6

ford inline 6 (because of reliability and long term use)

bmw's inline 6

nissian I6

buick gn v6

toyota's I6

cummins 600 (comeon..u gotta love 300+ hp and 600lb of torque!)

I think the GN V6 shouldn't be exclusive to that just that. Every GM 3.8 and 3800 is just a damn fine motor as far as reliability is concerned. I ran one on basically no oil for almost 3000 miles and it never gave up. Lost 3 cylinders, but it still ran and drove.

I have several other great experiences with that particular engine.

My buddy also had an 87 Olds 88 with the 3800 in it. He crove that car for 6 years and never once changed the oil. It is still running like new to this day.

My dads 91 riveria has the 3.8L V6 in it, he never took care of it yet it was still running fine with 300,000+ miles on it.

We finally gave up fixing it when the timing chain broke.

That engine isnt as powerful as the 3.5L from chrysler.

VG30DETT - Not quite in the same league as the other two Nissan engines, but was the top Nissan engine in North America for years.

VQ30DE/VQ35DE - has essentially carried the entire Nissan line-up for the last decade. Available in everything from luxury cars, sports cars, trucks, SUVs, minivans, and even commuter cars. Versatile, powerful, technologically advanced and, even after 12 years, still one of the best engines in its class.

RB26DETT - Top Dog in Nissan's "Racing Breed" engine series. Primary reason why the Skyline is so famous. Capable of extreme power and was, in a large part, responsible for Nissan dominating the JGTC through the 90s.

Porsche's Flat 6s - Most successful engine in the world of racing.

Honda C30/C32 - 270 horsepower out of a 3 liter N/A V6 in 1990 was a huge accomplishment. Race bred engine designed for practicality and reliability. 20 mpg ain't too shabby for a supercar, either. Unfortunately, there were very few power increases over the last 15 years and it's now considered to be quite weak.

Audi FSI 3.2 liter V6 - First gasoline engine to offer direct fuel injection in large numbers. Not only that, but available in performance cars, too.

Toyota 2JZ-GTE - Huge power potential.

BMW's I6s - If anyone has mastered the inline 6, it's BMW. Pretty much every one of them is a treasure.
