hey guys, so im new to car audio but have been doing quite a bit of research.. i first planned on getting two 15" jls but then i found fi and would really love to get to 15" bls and two amps to power each. ive got a 93 ford explorer with completely stock stereo, all four speakers are blown so i need all new speakers and an amp to power them. i also need a head unit. so i basically need everything new. i plan on doing the big three upgrade and any other things necessary to have a clean install, i also plan on making my own box. if anyone has any suggestions or anything to say about my plans id love to hear about it!

another thing is that i see people giving bls 1500 watts+ rms but i saw that they are only rated for 1000 rms? can they just handle wayy more power than its rated or what? might be a stupid question but im curious.

For the box check the Fi technical sections on their website. And I wouldn't push the woofer past its rms, there is a reason why that is the rms. Also If you want to get more out of you're system I would upgrade the alternator, battery, and do the Big3. Hope this helps, and good luck with the install

I'd also suggest a single amp to drive both subs. Not only is it easier to set up, but it would likely save a little space and maybe some money. With only a single cab and another amp for the interior speakers going in, you may need all the space you have.

i dont know if you read it or not.. but ive got an explorer.. and i originally planned on only getting one amp but i have so much room in the back i decided two would look better and maybe beform better.. but thanks anyways for the advice!!

Do you plan on strapping the two amplifiers? If so what ohm load are you looking to run on the two amplifiers?

no i dont think i am going to.. ive heard of bridging them, im thinking about doing that.. and i dont know if that is the same a strapping them but i know nothing abbout that so any knowledge would be very appreciated!

Whoops. Not sure where I read single cab. Maybe I was flipping through too many threads at one time. It would be nearly impossible to fit two 15s in a single cab, ha.

As for the strapping, it's just easier to set up the amplifiers that way. You basically just use the controls from one amplifier to control both amps, that way you know they are both putting out the same signal to the subs. It also helps with ease of wiring a little bit.

"Bridging" isn't applicable here since that normally refers to using two separate channels on a single amp to drive a single load. So, for instance, bridging a 2 channel amp to run a single sub. You use both channels and sum their outputs. Strapping is similar, except you use two separate mono amplifiers to drive a single load (which could be two subs wired together to become a single load).

Not all amps are strappable. I'm not too familiar with any Soundstream amps since I've never used one.

How can I tell which amps are strappable?

It will usually say in the product description. If not, check the owner's manual.
