So my friend just got a new Sundown amp. The recommended fuse size is 200 amp.

He just told me on the phone he currently has a 60amp fuse on his fuse holder. He asked me if it was fine to use what he had, I said I was going to ask around first to see if it was ok to do so.

Is it ok to use a 60 amp fuse or will there be any problem/risk or anything?

what size power wire?

What amp? How far is the fuse holder from the amp? Is there one near the battery also?

on that amp you should be running 1/0 wire. with a 300(ish) amp fuse, if you want full power. i hope its not running more than like 400 watts right now That fuse is way too small, i wonder how it hasn't blown yet.

for starters once you upgrade to 1/0 wire do not put a 300 amp fuse in there!

200amp fuse is good enough! (200ampsx12volts) with the 200amp fuse you will be able to make more then enough power.

now you already know you shouldn't be using 4awg wire on this amp no matter how long the wire is.

but since you are using 4awg until you get 1/0 wire fuse to the maximum amperage that the wire can handle! so if 4awg can handle 120amps of current then drop a 120amp fuse!

also keep in mind the saz2000 don't have internal fuses so you need an extra fuse to protect this amp!

protect your investment and play it safe go with a 200amps fuse!

He is running only one sub (I think something around 1000watts rms), and he is not going to be using the 2000D to its full 2000watts (at least not now, he needs to upgrade the wiring and electricals).

Right now, he cant upgrade to 1/0 (I think he is saving for it right now)

So if he plans on keeping the 4gauge (which is from a Rockford Fosgate full install kit so its not a cheap cable) and use like 1000watts RMS from the 2000D, should he get a 120amp fuse?

Also, are you saying that he should get another fuse holder with another 120amp fuse? So that he has a fuse on each end of the power wire (one on the battery terminal and one right before the amp)?

yes! no reason why not! a bigger amp (under 200) fuse is fine for that amp

and i do know he isn't going to be using the amp to the full potential but might as well get a 200 amp fuse and the 1/0 when he has the money to why wouldn't you.

and if the wire is rated for 120amps then yes by all means use 120amp fuse. and remember it doesn't hurt to fuse UNDER the recommended all you are doing is risking blowing the fuse if the amp pulls to much current aka more then 120amps right/.

But before telling him to go buy a 120amp fuse, how do I know if the Rockford Fosgate 4Gauge wire can handle a 120amp fuse?

The kit came with the 60amp fuse he has right now, will it be ok if he just replaces the 60amp fuse with a 120amp fuse?

Also, does it matter what fuse brand or model he gets? I thought about KnuKoncepts, but with shipping it comes out to be like $11 lol

You can pull a lot more than 60 amps through that fuse before it blows.
