Ok so I am about to add a battery soon to my system and I was talking to a local audio place and he said an idea and wanted to make sure it would work without issue's.

So When i run my wire back from my front battery I need to place a fuse close to that battery, Then everyone always says you should place another fuse right before the rear battery on the same power line. Then I wasn't for sure if you need another fuse between the rear battery and the amp also since its only like a 2-3ft wire of power?...

But ok.. so he said instead of buying a fuse near my rear battery and a fuse between the amp and rear battery ( because this would = 3 total fuses ) He said on the rear battery I could just buy like a Fused Distribution block and have like ok There is one big input side and 2 outputs on the other side.. so He said if i wanted i could do the one big side connected to my rear battery and then on the side that has two outputs have one lead to the front battery and the other lead to my amp because both wires are fused seperately inside the dist. block. and this way the front batt is connected to the rear batt. and the amp is also connected to them .. and they have a fuse for both coming off the rear battery.

He just said it would be cheaper to buy the one dist. block with 2 fuses then to buy 2 seperate fuse holders and fuses.. It seems like it would work but I wanna make sure. Thanks for reading that super long boring post haha.

To me it sounds like it would work. It's basically doing the same thing, just using a single wire.

Ok Just making sure, sense the side with 2 ports is called "outputs" I kinda wanted to make sure that the current can flow either way through the dist. block and it doesn't have some mechanism to make it only flow one way.

And for all the smarties out there I wanna make sure if 150amp fuses is enough.

up front is just a stock battery and then in the back im planning on getting the kinetik HC-800 and the amp is a sundown sax 1200d. I know the sax has 3 40amp fuses so I figure it pulls up to 120amps.. So i just want to make sure that 150amp fuses is enough for the current when running wire for battery's and the sundown 1200d. Thanks as always guys for your answers! they all help me a lot with my decision making.

nah unless there's some sort of circuitry in there, electrons are gonna go wherever they damn well wanna.

on the fuses, i'd always seen the conventional wisdom be "match the amps' fuses, or 10a over that" but yeah the 150 will be fine.

lol will do, but it looks crappy.. Lol i had to long of a power wire from alt to batt + but didn't have time to take it out, clip and redo the ring terminal.. so there is like a foot or 1/2 ft extra wire just like bunched up but i tried to zip tie it at least, and its only 4awg.. but its good enough for the current my system pushes. i shouldn't ever be doing over 150amps so the 4awg is good.

I need to get pics up of my car/sub and box/wiring so people actually can picture everything I always talk about. And i'll post pics once I receive my GORGEOUS Sundown SAX 1200D hopefully this week Im so excited I just pee'd my bed..

My ears tingle already with my crappy 1000 sony amp that does like 500rms haha.. 1000-1200 will be like tearing my tiny car apart hopefully

my box is sad... not covered or anything and i need to reinforce it probably before the new amp comes in this week because it shakes like crazy when bass hits. Like my box flexs. i cant add a layer of wood around to sturdy it up though because my trunk is full to its max width and length possible.

Take the subs out and bolt it down. then make (covered) cover pieces for looks and easy maintenance.

Ok so I drew up a little picture to show this before i buy this hopefully this weekend. Noone really seemed for sure if it would def. work or not so i want to make sure before I buy it because im super tight on money at the moment but im getting a amp and battery in the mail this weekend.

I want to make sure you can use a fused dist. block near the rear battery to take in the front batt wire to go to the rear batt and then also the rear batt out to the amp on the same dist block? its fused with 2 anl fuses.. So it seems like its the same as two seperate in line fuses? just cheaper. Please help. I wanna do this cuz it will save me money to buy 1 item instead of 2 plus fuses.

Only thing I could think of that would not work right, is since the 2nd battery isn't directly in-line with the first one, the altenator wouldn't be charging the 2nd battery as much that way. It seems to me that Most of the power would be drained from the front battery, and the amp would just be drawing dry power from the 2nd battery. The 2nd battery is seeing very little, if any charge from up front. Yes it would help, but it could quickly drain the 2nd battery.. Kind of like running your system for a long period without the car being on. I've never seen a car done this way so I don't have a definite answer, but that's what it looks like to me.

Question:

Are the fuses in the distro block replaceable? Or if you short one of them out do you need to buy an entire new block?

I would say buy 2 fuse holders and be done. What size wire are you using?? I fuse to wire size not the draw. Waiting sucks, but doin' it complete the first time and then enjoying it is the goal. Right??

Then where is a place to get 2 cheap anl holders because I can't find any cheap ones... The good thing about the dist. block is that it came with 2 fuses already and would work as 2 holders basically. knukonceptz is out of mini anl holders and only has full size.. which cost like 20 a piece.. the mini's did cost $8 a piece but it says they are out and have been for a while.. knu's holders came with a fuse with purchase too..

If I buy inline fuse holders, Do I really need one between the rear battery and the amp? Or do i really only need a fuse right after the front battery and then also another fuse right before the rear battery on the same wire? Do i need to have a fuse on the power wire between rear battery and the amp?

Anyone? I want to order it right now if possible so I wanna know if I can just have the two on the main power wire from front to rear battery or if I have to have on also on the rear batt to amp wire?... I dont wanna buy 3 if I dont have to :L Im poor.

I would have to say difinately fuse between battery and amp. Putting fuses on everything can save your equipment and then all you have to do is buy a fuse if a short happens. I like to play it safe, but putting a fuse between battery and amp is just common sense in my opinion.
