I was talking to a friend of mine earlier who is a frequent SSA user, and he suggested i ask the community. So here's what I want.

In general, I want my car to sound as clear and full as my home theater system (5.1 with a Polk CS1, pair of Monitor40's, and bookshelf speakers in the back with a Polk 10" sub). It was suggested to me to get a pair Bravox components (here: http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/store/products/Bravox-Audio-CS60K-Components.html ), but I like having full "surround sound", and i would like to have a pair of 6x9's as well, which my friend suggested were unnecessary. (I also drive a lot of people to and from places so it'd be nice to allow them to listen to music as well). What should I get?

Currently, this is what i have:

2005 Lexus IS300

Pioneer AVIC-F90BT

not sure of model numbers, but they are low end model JL speakers in door (6.5") and on rear deck (6x9")

i believe they are the TR650-CSi and TR690-TXi respectively

any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I'd get a 6x9 to 6.5" adapter, 6x9's that sound good are a fairytale.

You don't need rears. Music has NO surround sound....unless of course you bother with putting in a 5.1 system, which IMO is absurd in a car. Easy way to figure that one out, how many audio recordings do you have that are recorded in more than stereo? If you don't answer most of your music then you really should spend all of your money on your fronts and skip the rears.

Not necessarily.. you're just used to 18-way coaxials making you think no one could ever make an oval speaker that would sound good.

Welcome man!

Not really looking to go all out, but I want something of really good quality. As I linked earlier, there were the $400 bravox's for about $170 which im highly considering, but I don't know what to put in the rear

And to clarify, yes, I realize most music is 2 channel, but I prefer that two channel coming from in front and behind me, not just from two speakers at my feet. Also, it's my daily driver and I often have passengers in the back seat

In you FACE Duran!!!!!!!!!

My post remains, and it is my opinion :)

I have the Bravox 6.5 components and they sound awesome for the price. I highly recommend them. I agree with Duran either get an adaptor for the rear or dont put a rear stage in at all. I have not seen a 6x9 that compares to 6.5's in sound quality so far, plus the 6.5 market is flooded with good products which can not be said for the 6x9 market.

Take a look at Focal's website, for example. And look for their 6 x 9. You won't find them in the Utopia or K series? only in their lowest lines.

If you have good speakers upfront, why do you want to downgrade with poor speakers in the rear ? If they are located in the doors, why not ? But if they are in the back, behinh the passengers' head : forget that idea, they will be painful for the passengers, you will never hear them, and they will suffer from the bass coming from your trunk !!!

Put your money where it makes sense : the best front speakers you can afford, with deadening, sealing holes in the doors,...
