Long story short, Everything is brand new. I have a 12 RE Sex that I built in a sealed box. The box was to big after I was done (1.66) so I packed the back wall with 2x4. Well after I had installed everything I had local shop try to tune the sub. They agreed it was missing the low and just had no balls. They suggested we use the same box and port it.

Re specs for min port box is 1.5@35Hz. They said we could use the same box as it is 1.66 and they ported it using 3 inch pvc tube that was 7 inches long. It was night and day but I would like to get others opinions since I have put a lot of time and effort into redoing my entire audio setup.

Here is my setup:

Truck: 05 Ford F150, all doors sound damp, roof also.

Headunit: Pioneer MVH-P8200BT (all sub mhz, gain, tremble etc etc set to 0)

Sub: 12 Re Sex DVC 2 wired to 1ohm 600RMS

Amp: Powerbass ATM 900.1D stable at 1ohm 900RMS

Amp 2: Powerbass XAX 4160FD 100x4 RMS

Rear Speakers: Powerbass L-6802x 6x8 Full-Range

Front Speakers: Polk Audio Component (older speakers but still sound good)

Power Wire: KnuKonceptz 0 gauge grounded on back side behind drivers to block, 4 gauge to both amps

Ground: KnuKonceptz 0 gauge running pass side to block, 4 gauge to both amps

RCA: KnuKonceptz Twisted 3X shielded cables running down center of truck

Current sound info: coming home last night I was listening to some slipknot and manson and after I parked I felt the center cone of the sub and it was warm.

Questions:

[1] Is the box tuned as best as it can be using existing box?

[2] What type of settings should I change on the amp?

[3] They want around $300 to build a optimal 2sq ported box. Should I have a new one build?

turn the subsonic filter up..it might..cause something mechanical in the sub...and pretty much the box you have is good enough.

Try these settings :

LPF at 80-100 Hz

SSF at 30 Hz

Bass boost at 0 (bass frequency, bass eq)

$300 for a small ported box ? that's expensive.

I can't say if your box is good or not : do the maths. I don't want to do it, but you need the internal volume of the box, and you take off the volume of the driver and the volume of the port.

Thanks guys, I'll try those settings.

Based off a few sq ft calculators I came up with 1.449 (sub displacement take out). I'm not sure how the shop came up with 1.66 but I'm a little confused on how to take out for the 3x7 tube. It seems if RE is saying 1.5 is min and 2 is optimal the box might be to small. Anyways, once again thanks for the replies so far. I'll test the settings out.

One other question:

On the headunit I have to select a setting for the sub. The selections are:

50mhz, 63mhz, 80mhz, 100mhz and 125mhz. It's set on 100mhz right now. Is that correct?

I have mine set to 80Hz. It's personal preference.

Talk to one of the many box builders on here for a box.

[3] They want around $300 to build a optimal 2sq ported box. Should I have a new one build?

that is the most ridiculous thing i've heard all day.

Oddly enough RE specs on their website are way off for the sex and sxx versions. Per their tech Greg the box should be 2.5 tuned at 35 ported for the sub to properly work. Why they have BS on their website is beyond me. Anyways the local shop took the sex sub back and I upgraded to sxx and they are building me a finished carbon fiber (front), carpet on sides, ported on top contoured to my seat for $200. I drop my truck off tomorrow so they can start work.
