Hey guys! I was wondering what any of you with a Q 18 set your crossover or lpf to? Also what type of crossover? Right now I have BW and LR filters to choose from, 6, 12, 18, or 24db/octave and 12 and 24db/octave, respectively. A simple frequency recommendation would be great though, hehe. I have tried many values from 70 to 180Hz but can't really decide. Are there any tests I could do to help me decide? Right now I have it at 127Hz 24dB LR which seems to be fine but I still feel indecisive. Thanks!

It's a rackmount 3-way crossover. Not using these in a car hehe. I think which proper crossover points and filter types to be used are independent of the crossover itself, in that the same type of filter with the same cutoff on two different crossover models really wouldn't make a difference, except differences unrelated to the filter itself. No?

Usually where it sounds best to you which HOPEFULLY is dependent on what else you are combining the subs with.

If they are both in the same box, I would stay below 100Hz, even with 4th order slopes.

If they are in 2 seperate boxes and located somwhere near the mains, then you might get away with a little higher cutoff.

When they blend the best and you don't go "Damn, that is my sub right there" every time a bass drum hits then you should have everything OK.

I can't stand anything but stereo subwoofers placed near the mains. It never sounds right any other way to me....

I'll experiment more with various settings below 100Hz and see how that works out when I don't need to worry about waking anyone up heh.

And yeah, I agree. I like to keep the mains right on the subs. These are in separate boxes =)
