Posted November 18, 201014 yr Wondering if anyone has used the 4/0 welding supply wire.... I have some interest in using wire this thick just so that I'll only need to run 1 run instead of a few 1/0 runs. I'd like to see some size comparison pictures or something. Also wondering how the 1/0 welding supply wire compares to the knu wire as far as size. I read some stuff on here about how copper is so much better than copper clad aluminum, and would like to change it up now. Thanks! Edited November 18, 201014 yr by holley2346
November 18, 201014 yr Unless your pulling 1200 amps i wouldn't be too worried about 4/0.. Maybe 2/0www.cableyard.com sells 1/0-4/0.
November 18, 201014 yr Are you having any issues with the copper clad cable or are you just wanting to change because some people think it's "better?"
November 18, 201014 yr I used a bunch of 4/0 a few years ago, Supraflex welding cable. It wasn't over 1" in diameter and was super flexible. I gave my last 40ft of it away to Marshal Joyner... lol...I ended up using the heavy copper crimpable ends that are used for indsutrial apps, they worked bette in my opinion....CCAW is straight up crap. Seriously, it is a joke to buy that stuff. You are paying for fancy looking aluminum garbage.... Of coarse it will work fine if you buy 1/0 to run a single amp that is a few thousand watts.... But it is a big ass waste of money. Seriously it is a joke played on stupid consumers...
