Posted February 7, 201114 yr Now that iv figured out an AudioQue 2200D would be a great choice for my Fi BTL N2, along with my Phoenix Gold 500.4 for my component speakers, i was just wondering what kind of electrical upgrades i would need to support this. (~2700watts). Iv read up on what is needed and im seeing a few mixed results. This is what im thinking:Big 3240 Amp AlternatorKinetik 2400Now the kinetik would be replacing my stock battery instead of running my stock and the kinetik. If anyone thinks thats not enough, or i should keep my stock battery or any other ideas it would be a great help.

February 7, 201114 yr Author Alright, well i just know right now im running only about 1600 watts and my lights dim like crazy, iv actually had my car's battery light flash at me a few times when im really pumping my alpines, so this time i just want to do it right

February 7, 201114 yr umm what is your car and alt size as of right now? 60amps?I second this... What car do you have? Possibly your stock alternator just isn't enough .. Maybe just doing the alt upgrade and BIG 3 will be sufficient... I'd still get the battery if it fits under the hood... But that's justgme...

February 8, 201114 yr Id say def get a good size battery under the Hood for now and BIG 3. if it needs more then look into a HO alternator.

February 8, 201114 yr I think it's supposed to be the other way around. Bigger alt first. You need to be able to make the power in the first place.

February 9, 201114 yr I'd get the big battery. Your stock alt is not so weak, and you're running "only" 2700 watts !Do the big 3 and get the voltmeter.I'm not an electrical specialist, so do what you got to do !And good luck !
February 10, 201114 yr I'm getting so many mixed answers here. LolAdd the "Big 3" if you haven't already, it won't magically make more power, but it will decrease the resistance between your power source and your amp. It's just a given.Adding batteries will help the voltage drop, but only for so long, and your stock alt doesn't produce enough amperage to keep up a good charge on the batteries and support everything else your putting on it.I say get a h/o alt then add batteries if needed.you said your alt makes 105amps? I doubt that's at idle, so lets say 105amps at max in the higher rpm range.A 100% efficient amplifier (does not exist) that produces 3k on 14.4v would need 208amps.And that's not even taking into consideration the rest of the cars electrical system that needs power to properly function.
February 10, 201114 yr Quickly read through this thread, do you still have the previous system in your vehicle? If you do you could do the big three and see if that helps at all. Start with an HO alt and move on from there. If i were you i would just add a second battery in the trunk and forget about replacing the stock one up front, just check it with a dmm to make sure its good.
February 10, 201114 yr If you have money for the new alt, Then by all means snatch one up. If not get the battery. I got my extra battery first, was a great buy and helped out ALOT. Especially if your stock alt is pretty beefy.
February 11, 201114 yr Alternator 1st if at all possible. Ever see any vehicles like yours used as police vehicles in your area? Cops crash all the time and their cruisers usually go to the junkyard, leaving a nice HO alt under the hood that can usually be had for a reasonable price. They don't put out huge amounts of power but definitely a good bit more than your stock civilian ride will because they have to run all the extra lights, computers, etc. I'm really surprised that more people don't do this, and for guys who run trucks and SUVs, the ambulance alts pump out plenty for almost any moderately powered system. Just some food for thought. If you can't afford a HO alt right now, the battery should help a good bit and if you don't think you can/want to buy a bigger alt, you might want to think about downsizing.Just my $0.02
February 11, 201114 yr Looks like a big battery would be your fix for dimming lights, also will help amp. Just do big 3 upgrade, and alt can wait.
February 11, 201114 yr Depending on budget that is, like everyone said, if you can afford a good ho alt, then that's the way to go, but battery should hold you up until to decide to upgrade alt.
February 11, 201114 yr The most common seem to be BIG 3 (for sure)... HO alternator seemingly second, and battery or battery bank last.... Go Go Go!!!
