March 6, 201114 yr Author I think an 18" BTL isnt too big for a first major install as long as you do your research and fully understand what your getting yourself into. Expect to buy a good alternator (not a db electric alt) a good battery.. probably 2. Some decent 1/0 gauge wire.An 18" BTL was my first major install and i love it, still plenty of room to go bigger when the funds are there. Hopefully you either want a tremendous amount of bass or you have heard a btl before because in the right enclosure your going to have some serious bass. Ask plenty of questions here if you need to, just provide as much info as you can to help get you some good answers. what amp is it you got your eye on?hey thanks bro alot i really appreciate it man because this is my first time doing an instal and i need help. The amp am looking forward on buying is http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com/rockfordfosgatepowert2500-1bdt25001bd.aspx But idk how i should power all this, i get real confused since i am inexperienced. If i get 2 batteries and 1 h/o alt how should this setup be? h/o alt connect to both batteries? am sorry if my question are stupid bro. does 2 yellow tops sound good with one h/o alt? and how should the alternator wiring be if it is charging 2 batteries. thx again bro for ur helpI spent $3000k easy and i dont have a H/O yet lol, id just start buy stuff, if you want a BTL then make the purchase and youll have more commitment after thatye ur right bro i might as well do that
March 6, 201114 yr Do you have the 4 door tacoma's? or just a extended cab? i was looking at pictures if you got a 4 door you could fit an 18, probably take up the majority of the back seats if you have the extended cab you might not be able to pull off that 18
March 6, 201114 yr ok... first, is your tacoma a extended cab? 4 door? and are you willing to give up seats in the back? because you WILL have to either remove some seats, fold them up, etc if you go with an 18. i suggest a 15"...ALSO...DO NOT buy from dealerscostcaraudio.com!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all of the 5 star reviews are probly bogus considering all the 1 and 2 star ones...http://www.google.com/products/seller?hl=en&sugexp=gsis&xhr=t&q=dealercostcaraudio&cp=9&rlz=1R2ADSA_enUS417&um=1&bav=on.2,or.&wrapid=tlif129938588898710&ie=UTF-8&tbo=u&tbs=shop:1&source=og&zmi=dealercostcaraudio.com&cmi=3818414428717056&sa=X&ei=Mw5zTYzsCcnAtgedmNn3BQ&ved=0CEMQqQwwAA&biw=1345&bih=467here is a link to all the shady buisness that goes down on that site. half the people never get their stuff nor a refund. and definately go Sundown on your amp. great power / watt.
March 6, 201114 yr That battery and alternator should be easy to change with a couple hand tools and a sixer. iirc the alt on those pickups is right on top in front like domestic trucks and should be a piece of cake to replace.

March 7, 201114 yr Author Im surprised this hasn't been brought up yet but a toyota tacoma.. where exactly are you going to put this 18" sub at? If im not mistaken thats a truck. the enclosure for that speaker will be pretty large. You may want to sort that out before you go any farther with this build. For 3000$ you SHOULD be able to do this build, i did mine for about the same dollar amount. It sounds like you have never done an install before.. that could be trouble for you. My advice is really pay attention to what your doing, if you dont know make sure to ask. Installing an alternator can be easy or very hard depending on the car. I have no clue where your alt is located on your engine, in my case I did it on a chevy and its easy as can be. Another thing is you chose a nice amp, but a pricey one. You can get an amp that will do the same thing for a ton less. Look into sundown amps, those will cost less than fosgate and do you just fine. Or as a 2nd choice i would go audioque for an amp. probably the 2200. for wire look into weldingsupply.com or knukonceptz.com , both should do well for you. Listen to M5, build your system around your goals.I looked at the sundown amps but didnt find any that satisfies me with price. But i looked at the audioque amp and found a great one (http://www.audioque.com/AQ3500D1-Amplifier_p_32.html) it pushes out 2600 watts rms at 2 ohms and is a good price for its power. i was planning on getting an iraggi h/o alt and 2 batt for this.
March 7, 201114 yr Well, i hope your about 5'1" tall or something cause i HIGHLY doubt your going to get the PROPER enclosure back there for an 18". Dont think ill be able to talk you out of it so good luck with your build.
March 7, 201114 yr ^ it does seem that you are stuck on the 18. But I till suggest a 12 or 15. And don't go with iraggi. Go with DC Power. I have hears about shady things going on with iraggi. Somethon about the guy is no longer around. But idk...

March 7, 201114 yr Copied from Fi's websiteBTL 18 – Ported box we recommend using 5-8 cubic feet @ 30-35Hz tuning, you can tune a little higher if you wish but we recommend keeping it close to 32hz for a daily driver. Again the same 12-16 square inches of area applies per cubic foot of volume. Basically you should really understand how big the box is going to be before committing to it. Like i said not 100% familiar with the truck you have but rarely can an 18" be fit into an extended cab truck. If your sure you can do it then more power to you. Just really think about it. Would suck to buy everything just to find out you only have 4cubic feet back there to work with ported.

March 7, 201114 yr A 15" sub in an optimal box will sound better than the same sub in 18" in a too small of a box. With your budget, you can do 2 good 12" subs too.

If you are running with stock electrical, dont expect to safely run enough to power two high output drivers. Im running a single 1600w at 1 ohm amp and my lights were dimming severely before I installed a new battery.

March 11, 201114 yr Will 2600 watts rms be safe for both of dem?If you have to ask, no. Just start WAY lower and get a feel for things.
