I just installed a DC Power Engineering's 250 Amp Altenator XP on my 2010 Camaro 6.2l and the belt squeals on cold startups. My car has 6600 miles on it. I have a new belt on order and will try as soon as it comes in. The alt came with a smaller pulley on it Im wondering if I may need a shorter belt, maybe the tensioner is not tight enough with smaller pulley the Alt came with. Any suggestions? What about changing out the pulley with the stock one? Though Im sure the DC Power Alt came with a smaller pully for a reason??

Scott

Only thing I know is the smaller pulley spins the alt at a faster rpm so it makes more power.

The smaller pulley spins the alt faster to produce rated power at idle and max power at lower rpm engine speeds. A squealing belt is typically a sign of a loose belt. I wouldn't be surprised if you have mounting alignment issues, I did.

DC Power FTL!!!!

alignment issues is what it is looking like, the front side of belt is fraying. Im gonna try some shims on the backside of the altenator. I have a new belt coming but thinking I may need shorter belt for the smaller pulley?

Post this in the.DC Power sevtion so more people interested in DC Power products can be aware of their products issues.

I recommend you compare the DC Power alternator to your stock alternator. I do not recommend shims. If the mounting locations are off send the alternator back to DC Power and get a refund and buy a Mechman alt.

Here is how I compared my DC Power alternator to my stock alternator. DC Power alternator mounting locations were wrong.

Did you take the alternator off your car and send it back to DC Power for a refund?

Nope! I installed 2 small shims on the two mounts at the rear of the alternator, working quiet and great now! Thanks for your help!
