i have found a shuriken on sonics. its like 70 bucks but i dont know if it is the right size for my amp, i have a 1200watt brutus. i will be adding hids and a smaller amp for highs. do you think this will work for a second batt in the back?......may be my post is not clear i have bad dimming problems from my sub. i was going to invest into a batt to help this problem and also do the big 3. i donot want to wham on my sub due to the fact i hear if it is not powered correctly it will damage my amp and sub. i know i do not have anything crazy so i thought a small batt would suffice the systems power needs.

Nope you cant use a new topic as a battery, unless there is something I been missing lately in car audio :peepwall:

not sure what you mean..? wrong forum..? this is the eletrical one right? a second batt pertains to car audio? :ughdunno:

I'm guessing you're thinking about the BT20? That's only 20 ah, it might help a wee bit but won't add a whole lot of power.

ok,i did an edit i thought i may not have been clear, due to jay cees post. thank you ohjay i will prob go with a yellow top i can get them for a pretty good deal.

Whatcha got for a battery under the hood?

  • Author

Its just a reg stock batt I never really looked its prob the original that came with the truck.

Dont get your panties in a wad because you cant post a good link, I understood everything you said. Your link is of a new post and not of the battery you are asking about.

Also asking what size battery will do the job is kinda pointless since every electrical is different. You need to post more info such as size of alt and other amps you will add to the situation. If your planning on upgrading and adding more power then try to get the biggest battery you can. Instead of skimping on one now then having to go buy another one when you upgrade.

It would be much simpler to say that then to post something. not helpful? But back to my topic. It is also hard to post on my dinasour blackberry it does not always work right.

I understand and you just gotta look past my sarcasm, thats why I post pictures after I speak.

I'm not sure what your battery box and such looks like, do you have any extra room for a larger battery underhood?

  • Author

No the box is its rather cramped the batt is a pretty small one for being a suv. I think it has a 180 amp alt.

I honestly would look at the Shuriken SK-BT45, its $70 more but it will probably help out with your future upgrades.

If you upgrade your stock battery then I would look at the SK-BT35 just to make sure you have enough juice for days when you really want to crank it. Just my .02

If you want to run Shuriken, I'll bet you can fit a BT80 under there, maybe even a BT100 (this is what I run). Get some real world measurements on how much space you have. You might be able to get by with one good underhood battery and not have to wire up a 2nd.

Ok thank you jay cee I'm glad you could help I am sorry

no harm in my book, anytime. I bet the battery you want might hold up better than what you have now but the question is will hold up when your going all in. So really your listening habits play a factor as well (how loud and how long you listen to it when its at full tilt.)

Well I have a bass nob next to the head unit a get I don't really get on it cuz iv payed so much for what I have and only show people all out maybe like 1time a week maybe but I'd love to keep it up from pretty much my whole 30 min ride to work. I think the big 3 will help a lot but in not going to get the wires till I get the batt

Yes big 3 will do you justice, if you dont want to replace your stock battery then I would shoot for the BT35 or BT45 whatever is in your budget then.

what do you think about yellow tops? I can get them for 120 apiece.

I honestly dont see anything wrong with them, for that price I would grab two. One up front and one in the back, I used Optima's in the past with good experience.

Ok cool ill prob go that way then I'm always on a budget cuz. I don't make a lot I was trying to go the cheap way out

Yeah just buy one now and put it up front and do the Big 3, then when you get some more cash go scoop up the second battery. But with the first battery and big 3 installed I would also install a volt meter to even see if you need the second battery in the trunk. If so you may only need the $70 Shuriken you were looking at early, so when it comes to electrical its hard to say what you will actually need till you install it.

I have a stock one I'm sure its not as accurate. Is there a diy on how to install one?

Yeah there are plenty on this site and other forums. It depends which one you buy but most have the same install (positive, negative and remote). Something to power it and turn it on, plus it has to be grounded. You could easily hook it up to come on when the radio comes on, when the car comes on or when the key is placed in the ignition (it just depends what you wire it to).
