I currently have the Big Three (actually the Big Two) in 4 gauge. I was wondering if it was worth the money and time to buy some 1/0 and redo it.

I have an AQ1200d, stock battery, stock 145amp alternator

Any input in welcomed.

you could double up on the 4 too.

Do you have any voltage issues? If it were me I would just because, but you may not need to updgrade.

Not really having voltage issues, but everything helps ya know

Really depends on a couple different variables.

-BUT-

Based on your alternator ouput and length of the wire needed you should be able to answer your question fairly quickly. There are many 12v wire charts available, choose one from a reputable source.

The amps aren't going to matter at such short runs.

but bigger wire has less resistance which will give u more power.

So you're suggesting I buy some 1/0?

everything helps right lol.

but if you double a gauge it reduces it by 1 :WTFBubble:

who ever came up with lower is bigger.lol

it basically doubles or halves but the #'s are screwey

if you have 2 runs of 4gauge its like have 1 run of 2gauge.

doubling of a wire's cross sectional area halves its' resistance

It's cheap n easy, I say do it in 1/0, it only takes a few feet. You won't have to worry about it later if you decide to upgrade down the road.

This ^.

And finishing the Big 3 would help a lot.

All 3 should be quite easy on any domestic pickup.

This thread is getting f'd up fast.

Your max system draw is probably under 145 amps. You do not need 1/0 for short runs throughout your engine bay.

The 4awg plus your factory wires, if you left them there, are fine based on the information you gave. Assuming the system is installed correctly they're is no need for "big 3" wires to be of larger diameter than your power wire going to your amp, which I assume is 4awg (assuming you used the correct wire diameter).

If you have extra cash burning a hole in your pocket upgrade your starting battery to a nice agm unit such as XS Power.

If you have no voltage problems right now then I would finish off the big three in the 4 gauge wire you have now. That way, it's all done, and if you upgrade in the future all you need to do is get some 1/0 in the same length as the 4 gauge you pull off, solder, and install.
