Posted April 16, 201114 yr Are there really any half decent HU's these days? Originally I was gonna go with a Kenwood eXcelon KVT-696. But I don't need a DVD player. I would have had this system done by now but I lost my job back in Jan and just found one. The rest of my system is:Subs: 2 IA Death Penalty 12" Dual 1 Ohm Amp: Sundown SAZ-3500DSpeakers: Im still not sure. But leaning towards Polk speakersSpeaker Amp: Kicker ZX350.2Sub box: Probably something between 4.5-5.0 cuft net @ 33HzMy alt and battery will also be upgraded too. This will be going into a 06 Dakota Extended Cab.
April 16, 201114 yr Yes, just shop around and know what you're actually looking at when you read the specs of the H/U.You can find a descent on out there to suite your needs for usually under 300 bucks. They've come a long way as far as design and features in the past 2 or 3 years.I have always been a fan of JVC but, there are many out there to choose from.
April 16, 201114 yr I looked at your previous choice(Kenwood eXcelon KVT-696) and pretty much anything I have seen that has a fold out screen is going to be DVD capable. It is a single din so is that what you need for your application? Many single din units have all audio options unless you are looking for Nav and DVD or backup camera. Giving us the main options you are looking for will help with suggestions on your choices.
April 16, 201114 yr Author Headunits were always the hardest to pick out for me. I've only owned 2 headunits, the Alpine CDA-9833 and Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X890. For main features, I want atleast 5 volt preouts, and a motorized face would be nice but I found out that most aren't motorized anymore. For EQ a 3-7 band. For Ipod control, I could care less if it had one or not. I use CD's. For satellite radio, don't matter. The only option is single DIN.

Many people are trying to pick these up now since they were such a reasonable price and the price of the new pioneer comparable unit is nearly 3 times the price. That is a great option but I don't think he needs nearly that many features. If you can find a 800 or 880 I would be glad to switch you for my 980bt and even kick in some money on my end.
April 19, 201114 yr 5 v or 4 v, why do you care ?I've always like Pioneer ! But the 880 & 800 need several accessories to accept usb, ipod,...

I have one of each, and know where at least one more 800 is. Just make a "WTB" thread in the classifieds section.

I believe I remember you saying you were hoping to buy that 800 if I remember correctly. I guess I don't care too much to get one yet even though it would make life a whole lot easier.I was more saying that this guy didn't need a unit quite that great and he probably wouldn't even use half the features it has which would make me sad to see. Almost all of his needs would be met by the average unit. Even the 980 may be more than he would ever use which just seems like he won't need a high class unit like the 880/800 although it is nice to have.
April 22, 201114 yr Author I decided to go with the Pioneer AVH-P6300BT. Picked it up local for $450. So, im not complaining.
