Posted November 30, 200519 yr hi i wanted some info on how take make my electrical system to 14.4 volts i have a 1997 jetta vr6 so i would guess i have 12v system how can i make it higher so my amp would put out the right watts i have a brutus 1605 thanks.
November 30, 200519 yr Wouldn't all car put 14.4V when the engine is running?? 12v is from the battery but when the altenator kicks in it bring the voltage to 14.4v, cmiiw.
November 30, 200519 yr When your car is off it sits ~12.8v.When your car is running it runs ~13-14.4vIt is still called a 12 volt system.
November 30, 200519 yr Admin the voltage will flux while the car is on, when different electrical accesories come on or are turned on they are drawing current from the system, effectivly dropping the voltage, options to keep the voltage up are... BIG 3, larger battery, stronger alt, voltage regulator, larger wire etc..
November 30, 200519 yr Different regulators will output different voltages as well. A factory set regulator will be anywhere from 14.2-14.9V. Adjustable ones are just that.
December 1, 200519 yr Author thanks for the info guys. so my best bet would be to do the big three, and possibly a better battery. cause right now i have like one you get at pep boys for like 50 bucks.
December 2, 200519 yr Battery will help you none. Big 3, if that does nothing, you need a better alternator. Then you can look into a better battery.
