Posted May 18, 201114 yr Got new vehicle, well new to me and I beleive this to be what I will use for my project. Wife extremely unhappy that I want to do this but that is the way it is. She'll live & I'll be Boomin' !!My goal in this setup is of course "LOUD" next is hairtricks and a daily ground-pounder.My concern is port size (to small or to large) Need input on ideas on what I am putting together.Vehicle: 2002 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 V6Subs: 4 SA15'sAmps: 2 Sundown 2000D'sEnclosure will be built as a wall using trim to seal it out to the B pillar.Will be using 3/4" MDF doubled to make all sides 1.5" thick.Calculations are using allowance for .7 woofer displacement and 1 for bracing and working around wheel wells.Enclosure demensions overall Total gross volume=25.27'Height: 36"Width: 45"< May have to be a little bit wider to accomodate the subs on face of wall with a 10" wide port.Length: 34.5"Port size: Port will be centered @ 330"2Height: 33"Width: 10"Length: 30"My calculations give me a tuning of 34.9HzLeaving a Net Volume of 14.59' about 3.65' per sub.This site shows a minimum of 276.87" needed compared to my 330 that I would be using. < This is my interest on the design!!What I am considering above would give me 22.6" per foot. < Good/Bad for what I described that I want in my goals??Let me know what you think. May 18, 201114 yr i BELIEVE for hair tricks and all you want to get a ton of port area, not sure on that. I'm always getting confused when trying to figure how much to use. Do you mean you want to first build it for numbers, then once you reach some goal retune and all for a ground pounder?

You know something to play with! With #'s your allways trying to get the extra 10th.

May 19, 201114 yr Your calculations have you right in the ballpark. I have only assisted on wall builds and designs. With 4K watts on tap it should be a nasty loud ground pounder.

The thought on building it with 1.5" walls is to, maybe in the future, move up to XCON or ZCON with double the power.
May 19, 201114 yr Nothing to add, just a quick question? Why not tune lower to like 28Hz? If it's going to be playing music and demo-ing and what not I'd figure a low tune would be the way to go.

I know that the recomended tuning for these from Sundown is 35hz, I did in the begining of thinking this out that I would use a 32-33Hz tuning. Would that low of a tuning (28hz) be worth the extra space required for port displacement? Would it increase the goals that I have in mind? Nothing is built yet, that is why I am consulting the masses here on the forum. Thanks for the post!!
May 19, 201114 yr When considering in vehicle response the 35hz tuning is nice mix. Will cover the higher notes for Metal, Rock and will be able to play the low stuff just as well. Will need to play with lpf and ssf filters to fit your listening style. The SA series is a great driver.

The thoughts on the 35 tuning was because of the Sundown recomendation as well as with this size port the length of port gets crazy when you start going low on tuning.

May 20, 201114 yr In a situation like this I would opt for starting at a low tuning. If it doesn't meet the goals, the port can be shortened for a higher tuning at a later date.

Making the port shorter in a wall type setup unless I do something very creative would be a major pain!

I read through the page this morning, but I'll have to read it again for the mass of information to sink into my thick skull. It was interesting that different tuning on the same enclosure volume made such a big difference.
May 20, 201114 yr Numbers look good, if you shrunk your port area a bit you would be able to lower tuning, I'd just find a balance in port area and tuning, definitely stick with a minimum of 2802", you can play with it a lot, it will perform well regardless of what you ultimately decide to do with it.

Woulld staying with the larger port and lowering tuining get me to better results for what my goals are?
