Posted May 21, 201114 yr im looking to upgrade from my previous setup which consisted of 2 AQ sdc2.5 15's and an AQ1200D, basically i want to get louder, but i have the same limited space i had before. the dimensions i have to work with are 47" wide, 15" deep, and 35" high. i will be using an AQ2200D to power this system. i mainly listen to decaf music or other rap/hiphop 90% of the time, other 10% is rock/metal. so a sub that likes to be tuned low is what im going after. my budget is 500-600 bucks tops. im just having a hard time making a decision because i want to make sure this setup will get louder... i dunno if i want 2 15's that can take more power, or a single 18, or a IA DP 21, or 4 12's... really any of those will fit into my area, but i dont know which, or which subs to go with for my budget while still getting louder then i was.maybe a BTL 18 on the AQ2200 or a IA DP 21 off the AQ2200, not sure which of those would get louder off that power. May 21, 201114 yr single beefy 18" capable of handling 2-2.5k in the right box would be more than enough to satisfy your craving for loudness. btl is certainly a good choice, and so is a death penalty.

May 22, 201114 yr Before you spend all this money it might not be a bad idea to build a new box. What are you tuned to? You mentioned wanting to be tuned "low" but said you listen to mostly rap. Higher tuning will get you more output. Depending on what your currently at tuning your current set up to 35hz or so could give you a decent amount of output. You should look into tuning and really know what you want before you make a decision. If you really just want a new system I would recommend an 18 or two 15s. If it were me personally I would want a btl 18. You mentioned upgrading your amp too. I assume you know that you would most likely need an HO alt or at least a second battery for this.
May 22, 201114 yr hold off wait it out and get the ZCON when it is released to the public! I can stand and say that you will be very HAPPY!

I can stand and say that you will be very HAPPY! they do look awesomemine took 6850rms from my stetsom amp to one coil(due to miswire) and it was beating off that one coil for like a week straight..... then I placed it with its sister in a box for 2 18's that is 20 cubes after displacement and did a 156.7db at 27hz.... and let me tell you was not in question at all!

I wish I could get an HO alt and power something like that they are awesome subs. SSA ftw
May 22, 201114 yr Author yeah i got the electrical covered, HC2000 under the hood, and a DC power 270xp alt coming, it shipped out today, should be here late next week.to be honest, i really just want a new setup all together, ive had those subs in my past 2 vehicles, and have had them for 2 years, i just want something different, but at the same time louder since i am spending the money anyways.the box i had the sdc2.5 15's in was i think 6.5 or 7 cubes tuned to 34hz, its been a while i really dont remember, ive been subless for 6 months since i wrecked my last vehicle.im not trying to meter high or anything like that, i dont ever plan on getting it metered anyway, i just want a low tuned daily pounder that moves alot of air.. i love low notes. May 22, 201114 yr Go for xcons, or wait for the zcon, both would play very loud, but sound good as well, IMO a 21" sub would sound horrible, its just for spl or wow, hmmm but u only have 2200w? maybe a single 18" xcon, that would slam some balls around
May 22, 201114 yr You seem pretty set on the low tuning. Personally I am weary of the low tunning recomendations but either way if that's what you want thats fine. If you really wanted a new set up like I said I vote for a btl 18. Youve got a nice electrical set up so maybe a SAZ-2500 amp would be nice to pair with a BTL. That should get loud enough for you

May 22, 201114 yr IMO a 21" sub would sound horrible, its just for spl or wowAnd how are you basing your opinion on this?OP- what vehicle is this going in?I seen you post dimensions but am having a hard time figuring out how you have 47" wide, 35" high and only 15" deep unless you are trying to install in the back of a 7seater van or somethin..

May 22, 201114 yr oh.. your best bet is to fire up port out the side in these trucks...Funny thing is my buddy used to have one and he had over 18" deep so i don't know how you have less unless you just won't want to move the seat up a couple inches.

I'd stay away from the AQ HD. The Xcon or BTL or even Zcon would be a great choice
May 22, 201114 yr Author hmm ok.Tell me how high u can go before u reach the bottom of the back window?if i stay under the back window i can only go 23 inches tall with my box, but im not concerned with staying under the back window, 35 inches brings me a couple inches from the roof.
May 23, 201114 yr Author I think i want the BTL 18, but it just makes me scared going from 353 sq inches of cone area, down to 254 sq inches of cone area, but i am doubling power, and my box for the sdc2.5 15's was a tad on the small side, so i dont know it doesnt seem like an upgrade, anyone have experience with both of those setups? i just want to make sure the BTL will get loud enough for me lol, i know i keep saying that, but this is alot of money that i cant just waste. May 23, 201114 yr seriously- how bout a single 15 BTL?I know these trucks like sub up, port to the side.. For an 18? u would have to fire forward AND i would prefer to do a design for u while retaining the back window view while driving.

For an 18? u would have to fire forward AND i would prefer to do a design for u while retaining the back window view while driving.all of my sub setups in trucks have been subs forward, port up, thats what most people seem to do and it works out great, i dont care if i loose my rear window view, 75% of the time i cant see out of it anyway because my fourwheeler is in the back bed.and i definatly do not want to go with a single 15" setup. ill probably just get the BTL 18 and if it isnt loud enough i guess ill just sell it on the forums.but then again maybe i am under estimating how loud a BTL is.. ive never heard one in person.
May 23, 201114 yr i'll just tell u this as a last resort to change ur mind...Now this guys setup is a single 18" btl but it's sub up, port to drive side. single 8" aero.2 sundown 3000s strapped @2ohm to this 18 Box is 4.5cuft NET @42hz and does drop in the low 30s.153.4db at passenger headrest with door open.

May 23, 201114 yr i work and live around world record holders so when someone like u comes in with a vehicle i'm familiar with.. i tend to give off what i know about them..In terms of that question u just asked.. i can't answer that...I mean.. if u are dead set on losing ur window.. then.. i'm sure u have the room to effectively run that 18 like it, just forward..I just don't like losing viewing area on street based designs but i know u said u dont care bout 100x already...
