Posted August 2, 201114 yr I have enough airspace to properly port either (2) 12"s or (1) 18" subwoofer. I would like to spend 900 or less on just the subwoofer(s).What would you choose? It will be ran on a sundown 3500D.
August 2, 201114 yr Depends on what your looking for.. Are you leaning more towards SQ subs or SPL subs?
August 2, 201114 yr Author SPL, sorry. I forgot that part Edited August 2, 201114 yr by focalrock4life
August 2, 201114 yr There airspace requirements between (1) 18" and (2) 12" are generally not the same. The (1) 18" would generally need twice the volume of (2) 12". Food for thought...A Sundown 18" NS or (2) Sundown 12"Z's would handle that power if setup properly.
August 2, 201114 yr Author well I've got about 5.5 cubes net. Todays 18's I've seen can be comfortably run in that space and obviously 2-12's will
August 2, 201114 yr Unless your looking to keep your 18 in a sealed box, id say go with the 2 12's.. that would be cutting it a bit low for an 18" woofer with only 5.5 cubes
August 2, 201114 yr Author How so? Nightshade 18 are run in 4.5 - 6 cubes per their specs. Edited August 2, 201114 yr by focalrock4life
August 2, 201114 yr 2 12'sI hear the zcons get really loud and retain sq, also btls would be great. Don't forget IA as well, ppl tend to overlook them.
August 2, 201114 yr What about an lms ultra 5400 18"?I wouldnt ever use a lms cone too me isnt that durable.

August 2, 201114 yr id go with more cone area, and 5.5 for an 18 isnt going to sound at its potential, the 2 12's would be much happier with that kind of space
August 2, 201114 yr id go with more cone area, and 5.5 for an 18 isnt going to sound at its potential, the 2 12's would be much happier with that kind of spaceIt depends on the driver(s). You can't make a blanket statement like that.
August 2, 201114 yr I'd get a dc lvl 6, I believe they only come in 18's and 15's but I'd go with the 15 as we're not too sure on your space. I'd then save money for another 3500 and and upgraded alt.
August 2, 201114 yr Ok heres what you do, sell the saz3500 add that cash to the 900 allotted for the sub and get 12 8" bass bazooka's! Dude at 50w each, you'll be crankin a hard 600w's! Hope you got the electrical for that! Multiple runs of 12ga everywhere! Panel flex here you come!No really though, w/ shipping i'm sure it'll put you over the 900 but you could get 2 fi btl n2 12's. But that's also without any of the $ upgrades. With all the extras and shipping you'll be over 1000. Well I guess since that'll put you over budget, BASS BAZOOKAS IT IS!!! Cant wait for that build log!!

You can't make a blanket statement like that.So your disagreeing that the 2 12's wouldnt be better off in that kind of space? his budget is pretty high so he can get some pretty good subs, if i were him id try to get more cone area in that space restriction, im pretty sure thats not a blank statement its just common sense

What you're saying is that an 18" driver is not going to work as well in the same space. It all depends on the drivers. I can find several 18s that will work very effectively in that space, and I can find several that won't. Same goes for the twelves. Like I said it's all driver dependent.

If you want to go the 18 route I know the fi Btl n3 d2's will run around $624 depending on if you want 5-7 spiders (6 +$5, 7 +$10) and if you want cooling (+$45) or not. Specs say 4-10cubes. So that would work. I've heard one of those before and it was pretty freakin strong. Never saw it on a meter though.
August 4, 201114 yr What about an lms ultra 5400 18"?If you think it's worth the money, go for it.I think for the money, there's better out there. With that said, I've always wanted to try one. And I think there is this sexiness about them.None the less, I'm not paying over a grand to try it.
