Ok,, here is the verdict...

the bottom of the boot on the air strut has slightly ripped off the assembly.

I will be contacting Airlift monday to see what kind of lame excuse they give me for replacing it.

The beginning of fixingrepairing the buildcar is underway...

Here is a list of things that need to be done before finishing this build-

rear air strut rebuilt and tested to work

New tires

New brakes

Repair interior dash lights

Install alternator with extra cabling

Rerun 3 sets of RCA cables

Cut and modify existing fuse blocks

Tomorrow, i am going to attempt to get the strut fixed...

I'll keep everyone updated as everything above is slowly fixed.. then the rest of the build should be completed afterwards.

Downdate.....

XTREMELY bad news right now....

Shop just swapped out the replacement air spring and as soon as we dropped the car jack down on the ground...

BAMMMM!

The Air bag sleeve literally blew a 1.2" hole out the side...

Airlift got a good phone call 5minutes after that...

My air spring was WITHIN air PSI specs.. max = 125PSI, spring= 110PSI.. instant blow out...

Other air spring has never leaked or blew out yet...

They are now suggesting either 2 defects in springs or there is an unforseen defect in my car in that area which is causing stress point(s) on their air struts which is causing leaks and blowouts instantly....

So, long story short-

3rd air spring is being delivered thursday.. By this weekend, we will know whether it's working or it's failed again...

In the sorta likely event it blows out or leaks again, THE ENTIRE BUILD LOG WILL BE TERMINATED!

Everything will be uninstalled and sold to the masses...

The car will revert back to stock...

Remember, this is only if the 3rd air spring is damaged..

I am already preparing for the worst so that's what's going on right now.

Cross your fingers and hope airlift sends me a beefy airspring replacement.

Yawn

atleast give us some pics so we can have something good to stare at :)

Why dont you get coil springs made for your car to support the added weight?

Well, i'm gonna calm down a little.. Talkin to teamramrod on the phone, we are gonna work on a backup solution in case the 3rd air spring goes bad this weekend...

Coil spring- besides them being $1700 installed.. being told by the shop and the company who sells them that they are not designed to go up to handle weight so it would be a waste of money.

Teamramrod has a custom heavy duty spring solution from a local company he works with that has the ability to custom make me some springs over my stock struts to raise the car -2.5-4.5" higher.. but i'm only going to fall back on this IF i have too.

It might be worthwhile to corner weigh your car. If a 3rd blows it might not be the strut causing it. Or you have some sorta weird suspension geometry going on to cause a bind.

Don't be hasty and start parting stuff out. I'm sure we can get it figured out. I know it gets frustrating.

$1700 installed?

Seriously sean you need to stop taking things to a shop.

i'll tell u what i know man-

When both air springs air aired to same PSI(when the first one was just leaking slow..)

the BAD air strut actually sits up a good 0.75" higher than the other side that does not have a problem!

That right there indicated that LESS weight is being put on the bad strut....

Another thing, airlift told me possibly a defect in the car can be creating stress points on their air strut on that side causing damage...

If that's the case, only removing all the weight would fix it... BUT since the whole assembly lines up perfect, it would be no worse than cornering hard in a car, know what i mean?

Coil springs by themselves are $1440.

Car is in shop for Suspension install #4.

At this current time, all Slam bags that have been attempted to install on this car have failed because they are too wide....

They have a few hours left today to find one before we find out there isn't one in existence.

Sucks. Hope you get some good news.

If you can't make it work I think an adjustable coilover setup would be best.

There are a lot of options and some are little under 1000.

  • Author

good news..

They have now figured out which slam bag fits.. Now they are in a rush to get everything put back together by today so i can get my car back.

Specs still remain the same- 2500lb rated per rear wheel.
